... here's something I've always wondered for quite some time:

Example: "Celtic Guardian" is equipped with "Sword of Dragon's Soul", which can only be equipped to Warrior-Types. Later on it is equipped with "Dragonic Attack", which would change "Celtic Guardian's" Type to Dragon. Does the equipped "Sword of Dragon's Soul" get destroyed when "Celtic Guardian's" Type is changed, or does it stay equipped?

When a card states "This card can only be equipped to an X monster". then if X changes, the equipped card will be destroyed.

When a card states "Equip only to an X monster", then if X changes, the equipped card will NOT be destroyed.

Therefore, if "Dragonic Attack" changes the equipped monster's Type to Dragon, then "Sword of Dragon's Soul" will be destroyed.

This basic Q which i didnt know, lol.

Did Summon effect that monster has is a targeting eff?

To make it easy what i point out,: Holy Mark Nut and Shu? Did Nut can Do the SS thing?

Take note that if a Trigger Effect activates, you cannot declare priority on an Ignition Effect, because Priority only lets you take Chain Link 1, but Chain Link 1 is already "owned" by another Effect. You can still use a Trigger Effect of the monster you just Summoned.

So if you use Tengu for Brionac's Synchro Summon, ordinarily, you could use priority and ditch a card to bounce something. However, Tengu activates as Chain Link 1, and Brionac is not a Trigger Effect and cannot chain to Tengu. So it has to wait until the chain resolves, putting you in danger of Bottomless Trap Hole.

Okay, now I'm studying your question more carefully. Your early wording confused me, hence the above explanation.

Nut is like Spirit Reaper. It has to be faceup on the Field when it was targeted, and it must still be faceup on the Field when the effect targeting it has resolved. Then it will activate. Shu's effect does not target either the Hieroglyph you Tribute, nor the Hieroglyph you Special Summon if you Tribute Shu. And if Shu does target from the Grave, Nut wasn't faceup when it was targeted and so will not activate.

By ruling, yes. An Xyz Material is not considered on the field. Reason why Sangan/Goblin Zombie don't work when detached.

Yes, but when it's put under, does it leave? Technically speaking Tengu would work if it did, so my first thought was that it wouldn't.

So basically, even though the action of it leaving is there, does it technically leave?

Following this ruling, why doesn't Tengu get his effect when Overlaid? An overlay isn't treated as being on the field, but it isn't treated as leaving the field? Or is it because Xyz Materials just can't have effects unless stated on the card as such?

I figured it was the second reason.

Xyz Materials cannot activate effects because that's not a proper region. Think of it like if Tengu returned to the deck.

Here's the thing I'm asking about. If there's a card effect that says 'cards cannot leave the field' can you Xyz Summon?

Leaving the field is too broad a term to create a card effect that prevents it. That would prevent monsters from being destroyed (battle or effect), Tributed, banished, returned to hand, returned to Deck, or sent to Graveyard. It would also play hell on cards being activated.

The basis is that yes, Xyz Material monsters leave the Field. They are no longer on the Field and if the Xyz Summon is negated, they go to the Graveyard.

Can effects like Shi En be activated during the damage step, i.e. to negate Forbidden Lance?

Edit: And do Xyz Materials go to the Graveyard while Macro Cosmos is on the field?

Shi En is a Quick Effect that negates card activations. It may be used during Damage Step.

No. Xyz Material are still "cards". They will be banished if Macro or Banisher is out. They only go to the Graveyard if D-Fissure is involved.

Tiras vs. Necro Gardna

GOGOGO

Tiras having its attack negated will not trigger its effect, the same as Gladiator Beasts.
