Yu-Gi-Oh! Rulings Questions

Recommended Posts

Darius's Effects:

Trigger: When this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Gladiator Beast" monster, you can select 1 "Gladiator Beast" monster from your Graveyard and Special Summon it.

Continuous: That monster's effect(s) is negated, and it is returned to your Deck when this card is removed from the field.

Trigger: At the end of the Battle Phase, if this card attacked or was attacked, you can return it to the Deck to Special Summon 1 "Gladiator Beast" monster from your Deck, except "Gladiator Beast Darius".

I know, that's why I don't know what is the continuous effect of Seaking mentioned on Wikia...

Ignition: Once per turn, you can discard 1 card to Special Summon as many Level 4 or lower Fish-Type monsters as possible from your Deck. ContinuousLingering: A monster Special Summoned by this effect cannot declare an attack and its effect(s) is negated while on the field.

Quick: If this card is targeted by a Spell, Trap, or Effect Monster's effect, you can Tribute 1 other Fish-Type monster to negate the effect and destroy that card.

Now, the only real difference between Coleacanth and Darius is "...and it is returned to the Deck when this card is removed from the field". "This card" refers to Darius, and this binds Darius to the monster it summoned, cause Darius to target the summoned GB monster and applying this effect while Darius targets it. The monsters summoned by Coleacanth have no link to Coleacanth itself and the effects are applied to the monsters Special Summoned by its effect.

Coleacanth himself does not have a Continuous Effect that emanates from itself though (meaning flipping him face-down will have no affect on any of its effects). Coleacanth only applies a Continuous Effect on the monsters it Special Summons (The same way Junk Synchron negates the monster it Special Summons). The Continuous Effect is applied to the Special Summoned monsters while they are on the field, whether or not Coleacanth remains on the field or not. Darius' Continuous Effect is applied as long as it targets the GB monster it summoned.

Edit: Hooray for proper terminology~

If you book the Summoned monster, (i think, might be the other way round), Darius is no longer binded to it.

It's effect will activate upon summon and will be able to tag.

You'd want to BoM Darius if you want to use your Summoned monster's effect immediately. Also, if you Flip Summon it, it will no longer be considered to have been Special Summoned by Darius (it will be considered to have been summoned by Flip Summon) and will not get its effects.

If I have a random Six Samurai, Grandmaster, and Shien on the field, and somebody activates Dark Hole, could I save either Shien or the Six Samurai by activating their effect on the other, then when it's activated on the other, activate that one on Grandmaster instead, and then ultimately activate Grandmaster's effect when he is destroyed?

No, you cannot. If monsters are being destroyed simultaneously, as in the given example, you may not activate any of their effects, for the monster you'd designate as being destroyed "instead" is already being destroyed by another means at the same time.

Now, in your above example, if I activated Icarus attack and targeted Shogun and Grandmaster, you can activate one of their effects to destroy your third Samurai, but let the other target die, since nothing else can be killed "instead" to spare that one.

What about Grandmaster's effect? Supposing they all do get destroyed, Shien and the Six Samurai would be in the Graveyard, so would I be able to activate his effect to bring back the other Six Samurai? Or can it only target other Six Samurai monsters that have been sent to the Graveyard from before?

And on a side note, although I should be correct, but I'm just checking here, if Return of the Six Samurai would kill a Six Samurai, I could activate its effect to kill another, right?

Grandmaster's effect activates in the graveyard, after the destruction effect resolves. So you can target any of the Six Samurai monsters in the graveyard, even the ones sent to the graveyard with Grandmaster, or even Grandmaster itself (it has "Six Samurai" in its name).

That does not fit the definition of Continuous effect, IMO...

That isn't a question.

I believe Coelacanth's restriction of the monsters is considered a Lingering Effect.

Originally, Mystery Guest, it was a question, and you're right Saikano, it does not fit the definition of a Continuous Effect. I was only trying to find where the wikia is deciding to call it as such. It should be labeled as a Lingering Effect (though I couldn't remember the word Lingering when typing that out, so i just left it as "Continuous" and forgot about it =.=, also left out another paragraph i was gonna say after it >_>)

In any case, it would be best not to consider Coleacanth as Continuous as he himself does not have one. Darius is though as he targets the monster. Lingering Effect is the better term for what Coleacanth and Junk Synchron do.

In any case, to be clear, these Lingering Effects cannot be negated (with any cards anyway) as they are already in effect due to a successful resolution of the monster that Summoned it. The usual way around this is to remove the monster from the field or by flipping it face-down.

Sorry for that confusion >_>; I just did poorly explaining it where Mystery Guest does it by finding the right word for it Dx

Would using summon chants on my Synchro Monsters while pulling them out of my Extra Deck in a tournament setting constitute stalling? What if I were to use one when I was Normal Summoning a monster?

Yes, this is a fully serious question.

Depends on whether your opponent want to rule shark you or not. If I were you I would not do it. Most players there tend to take this way to seriously.
