Major's Shadow
Eyo!~ So, based on the size of this archetype, I'll be keeping each individual card short, and list out my full opinion on the archetype at the end (as always). If you have any further questions on my reviews, then be sure to let me know. Anywho, let's begin! Effect Monsters:Dragon Maiden Alsa - At the very least, they're Non-Tuner monsters, making synergy w/ the Blue-Eyes support impractical, so that helps balance them out. The ability to tribute for an immediate SS seems incredibly powerful, and you also +1 immediately, by recycling it and drawing 1 card. Very easily splashable, while also being an Upstart from Grave. I'm not sure what targets it has to SS, but the Grave ability is more than potent enough to warrant running in ANY milling deck.Dragon Maiden Gorta - Seems all the monster have this ability, so I'm not going to comment on that any longer. Just because you give a Kozmo Tincan or a Noble Knight Borz effect to a monster, doesn't mean its fair. Especially when the targets you send can generate advantage from Grave, giving you an immediate +2 or a potential +3 (depending on the other monsters in the archetype) w/o cost and during your Main Phase. Dragon Maiden Anna - Seems impractical as a search tool, but if this is the only form of S/T searching in the Deck, then I can see this being a relatively fair mechanic (since the monster core is so powerful). Again, entirely dependent on the rest of the archetype.Dragon Maiden Bella - The LP mechanic still isn't consistent w/ this archetype, but this at least makes sense as a cost. While you'll be generating 2 Extra Deck monsters off 1 Normal Summon, it takes 2000LP to do it. Which, in some scenarios, isn't really possible. Helps speed up the Deck, while having a reasonable cost for its effect.Dragon Maiden Tera - In a similar vein to Gorta (except significantly worse, maybe for the better), it has interactions w/ the Graveyard effects for the Dragon Maiden cards. However, only 1 card has a Graveyard effect (which is Alsa), making this part of the engine lack versatility, and translates to "Pay 500, draw a card". Spells:Power of Grace - I'm confused. The entire Effect Monster line-up already does this, so how does this help? Blessing of Grace - Yeah, not a huge fan of giving an in-archetype Trade-in w/ more targets. Its not the most broken aspect of the Deck, but draw power should be tread upon very lightly. Revival of Grave - Relatively powerful, but perhaps too overkill. Recycling OPT on-field effects by tributing those monsters can lead to some nutty combos (Bella eff, tribute for Extra Deck SS, SS w/ revival, Bella eff).Destruction of Grace - This seems fine, but the lack of targeting on the destruction is not OK. If it had targeting as a cost, this card would be fine.Graceful Vengeance - Terrifying card to have for the archetype, as it can trigger during Damage Step, or off any means of destruction. It's a non-target banish on-field, but not impossible to work around. It's a good tool for the archetype to have.Roar of Grace - Yeah no. Harpie's Feather Duster, while better than this in many ways, is still not good card design. It's incredibly easy to meet this condition too, so having Speed 2 S/T removal during your Opponent's turn (for all their S/T cards) is bonkers broken.Protection of Grace - Fits in-character with the archetype's flavor, while being fair for the most part. Decent tech, I'd say Extra Deck Monsters:Grace Dragon Dragoasla - So, it's a +500LP w/ a recycle eff that searches, and it floats? The whole archetype was sounding more fair when considering the power levels of the targets the Dragon Maidens have, but this is ridiculous. The stats are low, but you're generating more than enough advantage just summoning this card as-is. It also eliminates the weakness of running out of monsters to summon, making nearly infinite loops w/ resources.Grace Dragon Dragogorta - They all have this effect? So, the LP cost is completely mitigated, and that point of the archetype's design is worthless. Such a shame. So, it protects against S/T cards, which fill your opponent's zones (and cannot be flipped face-up), and can SS from Deck when inflicting damage to an Opponent's monster? These monsters do way too much for way too littleGrace Dragon Dragoanna - So, I can activate a "Grace" card, generate advantage from it, then recycle it and grab another for free? It also negates ANY monster effect (which, if they're not face-up on the field, it just negates). Again, same as the other two, this is just too much.Grace Dragon Dragobella - Welp, there goes the issues w/ its low stats. It's also a 2500 Armades that floats... shouldn't be surprised at this point.Grace Dragon Dragotera - So, it's potentially a 5000ATK monster that can attack all monsters your opponent controls? This and Bella make the stats an irrelevant part of the design, so that's another wasted aspect of the archetype.Grace Dragon Overload - I guess it doesn't need 2 Level 5 "Grace Dragon" monsters, just 2 "Grace Dragon" monsters. Not really sure the gaining effects should be added to the detach, considering that makes the other # of materials benefit gimmick not work. Unnecessary, IMO. At least it's a 3000ATK monster, I guess? Overall: I say this a lot in my reviews, and it rings true here: Quality > Quantity, always. The archetype has many loose ends in its design, while simultaneously doing everything w/o cost or any sort of setup necessary. The mechanics are a mish-mash of meta decks that, while powerful, don't give a cohesive design overall. The monsters are splashable and incredibly powerful, by being able to turbo free Synchro monsters that are all incredibly powerful. I feel that, with enough refinement, something interesting could come of this. However, in its current state, it's just freely abusable meta fodder that has no personality, and just somehow has everything that made all the real meta decks out currently good. Distinctive strengths and weaknesses in an archetype is good design, because it allows your opponent to play the game too.
