ihop
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/36330659/us-gamer-says-the-community-needs-to-speak-out-after-he-was-racially-abused I find this interesting because this was something I witnessed before I saw it in the news. I was actually watching TerrenceM playing on stream and there really was an outrageous amount of racist stuff being spammed in the chat. People are generally tolerant of Twitch chat because it's "just Twitch chat" and it's just a bunch of socially inept teenagers saying stuff they find funny, and I'd agree to a certain extent, but at this point it just got ridiculous. Terrence's family were watching the stream and all the stuff that was being thrown at him, and to the outsider it just paints a terrible picture of the gaming community. It's not just racism against black people too, Twitch will literally use anything against anyone, from being fat, asian, shy, bald, young, you name it. Should something be done against it? Can something be done against it? discuss etc.
Aerion Brightflame
Twitch Chat. Never was there a more wretched hive of sum and villainy Is there anything to be done beyond installing sub-mode in everything above a certain viewcount? Because big streams inevitably get taken over by idiots, and it becomes insanely hard to mod that sheer volume of stuff. Even if you say ban emotes and the most typical offensive memes sitewide, you'll get new meme's and offensive s*** taking over the lost ones. Because it's low effort and anonymous. It's really sad, but I think the only outright way to deal with it is would also kill twitch as a social platform, which obviously they don't want to do. Especially since it's just a vocal minority. Also nothing that happened to this guy sounds different to a normal day on twitch chat. Take that whichever way you will, but be it Minglee, or Grill memes, this s*** it just typical twitch chat. ihop
Well, stuff like MingLee isn't quite on the level of the sheet Terrence was getting throughout that event. You saw sheet like this- KIBLER CHECK YOUR WALLET after that interview TriHard He may stole it TriHard And various other even worse stuff which I can't be bothered to find. There's a difference between just spamming MingLee or TriHard or HotPokket or whatever else and spamming actually offensive stuff. Anyway, in my opinion one of the best things to do, even if it's probably not possible, is to make bans from the channel much wider-reaching. This is incredibly difficult, but I think aside from anonymity one of the things encouraging people to do stuff like that is the like of repercussions - even if you are banned from the chat you can just change your IP or something like that and get right back in again. The people spamming this do actually want to watch the event, so if it was easier to stop them it might discourage people. It's really tough, though. I guess people will be people.
