The Suppression Pluto

Level 8 DARK Fiend-Type Effect Monster

ATK 2600

DEF 2000

(1) Once per turn: You can declare 1 card name; look at all the cards in your opponent’s hand, and if there is a card there with the name you declared, apply 1 of the following effects.

• Gain control of 1 monster your opponent controls

• Destroy 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls. Then, Set that destroyed target to your field.

Immediately it's already better than Jupiter in every way. Discuss.

Question is, how does it interact with Pendulums? Does it Set them as monsters, does it just destroy, or is it not even able to destroy them because you can't Set them in the Pendulum Zone?

It would destroy them, as normal, but because they can't be set they'll just stay destroyed.

...Yeah, this completely eclipses Jupiter.  Same Attribute + level and virtually no cost to steal an opponent's monster/spell/trap.  Too bad for Jupiter...

As for some silly/notable stuff:

This can be searched by Doomdog Octhros. :3

Fiends have their own Foolish so this can be easily recovered from the Grave.

Kaiji's suggestion both searches this + puts a known card in your opponent's hand to call.

This has a Soft-OPT, for what that's worth.

And odd, considering Jupiter is much larger.

That's pretty funny. But if this had a harder "once per turn", it might be less practical.

And nice how neither of it's effects target.

WHAT THE... How did they let this come out?

Even if you call wrong the first time, any subsequent uses of the effect will be guaranteed to work, after which it steals anything you want forever. It doesn't even have summoning requirements, and is a DARK Level 8...

Wow, this turned out good. I seem to recall its manga effect was almost exactly like this.

*double checks* Yup. Manga effect was to declare a card name, and if the opponent has it, you get control of one card on their Field. This does...exactly that. The only difference is that it destroys the S/T and Sets it your Field. Which means it doesn't work against S/Ts that can't be destroyed, and you won't get their Pendulums because Pendulums can't be Set.

I really, really like this. It's a cool effect, gimmicky, but with all the searching that most Decks do, it's fairly likely you'll be able to pull off its effect once or twice without jumping through hoops too much.

Being a Level 8 Fiend with no Summoning restrictions whatsoever means you can easily build something around this.

Terra Firma allows you to use atk you already have and forces you to use awful cards to use them to get this crap out ... trash.

The Big Saturn ... where to begin ... Terra Firma 2 ... doing absolutely nothing ... also a waste of a name.

The Blazing Mars ... Blaster for almost any deck (in that it can push otks), hardly difficult to use, hardly easily dead, very solid and a great addition.

The Despair Uranus ... very solid, creating setup, protecting it (emptiness and march are only some of its targets), a solid card, however right now there is no real deck for it.

The Splendid Venus turns decree into a one-sided card ... for all that is worth.

The Supression Pluto ... good level, attribute and solid stats, no summoning problems, free information, potentially (likely) also a +2 due to stealing a card (this does not apply to Jupiter as it only enhances 1 card).

The Supremacy Sun ... even if beelze would be broken beyond words ... this would still not be worth it.

The Tripper Mercury ...an OTK machine for pends, which would use it and nothing else, going for 4k, while neutralizing all monsters the opponent has ... reminds me of obelisk the tormentor.

The Tyrant Neptune ... Cattle Calling's best friend, also for a wild monster appears, freeing the monster from the negative parts of them, if preventing the monsters from leaving before you can tribute them.

All in all out of the 10 cards 5 are alright, 2 interesting techs, 1 lacks a home, however is alright in theory and 2 are generic boss monsters one can tech (mars and pluto).

This booster adding 3 out of the 5 alright cards, while adding half of them is not awful.

All in all Pluto and Mars are solid and I can hardly say which one is superior, considering both have quite a great utility in terms of what they do.

I mean, overall, this is a very solid card, and it has a lot going for it. The problem is that it's a Tribute Summon, and this isn't a problem in that tribute summoning is bad, but it's a problem in that it limits what decks want to run it. Qliphorts have better things they want to run, Monarchs have enough removal as-is, and nothing else really focuses on Tribute Summoning as much. Not to mention that building around this card makes for a rather linear deck with minimal versatility.

It's not that this card is bad; in fact, it's very good. The problem is that it lacks a home.

Has someone mentioned Mind Crush yet?

Mind Crush.

This card can be activated whenever you could activate Mind Crush, yes. It also nets you a look at your opponent's entire hand to use with Mind Crush.

Mind Crush

Play this card and Mind Crush in Dark Worlds. Lucent can Summon this straight from the Deck (if your opponent discards it), and cards such as Dragged Down to the Grave or even Mind Crush (if you call wrong to get the discard) mean that you can always call correctly for Pluto.
