Yeah, most decks that would need or want the spiders have much easier ways to get to it, I'm sorry that I didn't spell everything out for you....most decks can't make 1's anyways, so even when you deliberately misinterpreted my quote, you should have realized that the existence of this pile of s*** doesn't suddenly make more decks run the spiders

We're not talking about rank 1 decks cat...cause as far as YGO that matters, those don't exist. There are decks that can summon rank 1 in the top 2 tiers, and none of them can s*** out three lv 1's with ease. A silly rank 1 deck is just that, silly and irrelevant, and also inherently inferior to the two tiers. Which brings us to the next point

Casual players don't bring the money to this game, otherwise DoL2 would have sold off the shelves, competitive players do. There's a reason the OCG Extra Pack and BOSH sold out as fast as they did, and in the EP's case needed to be restocked multiple times.

What reason? A balance between casual and competitive cards, not just a bunch of casual dickrolling like this set seems intent on doing. My point is that Konami is shooting themselves in the foot again and again

I don't like making piss poor plays just to make them and claim some kinda casual medal of honor...and neither do the vast majority of players, hang me

So... This card isn't for you.

No, you said most decks can go into those safely on their own (running RUM isn't good), and in terms of top-tier decks that run R1, first off: Who cares, I'm not even talking about this card's impact on the meta, and 2: I'm not talking about running this card in any deck. If there's anyone who's misinterpreting, it's you here as you're assuming I'm talking about splashing this and using it in competitive play. Frick, I wasn't even talking about running this just so you could run Spiders in other decks; do you even READ? I was saying the Spiders are good options for this card; not that you should run this for the Spiders. If there's anyone deliberately misinterpreting, it's you here.

No, you're not talking about R1 decks.

I wasn't talking about meta, I've been talking about this card as something you can run for fun, because it looks hella fun to run. Not all good players just circle-jerk around the competitive community all the time, Winters. Some of us like to play silly casual decks as well; it's called having fun. I saw this card, I saw that it looked sub-par sure, whatever, but I saw that its potential impacts looked large enough that it could be utterly silly to run, and the random factor not only makes it more fun, but it leads to more creative building in the Extra Deck to try and maximize on it. Of course, I shouldn't have to repeat this if you'd actually taken the time to read and understand me the first time.

Go cry me a river; not once did I ever talk about, or even care about, what impact this set will have on sales. Red herring someone else mmkay?

You'd be one of those players that joins a tag with your double-decking friend against me and Ladders on DevPro, see whatever silly crap we're playing and just go "Wow these casual sacks of garbage" and immediately get steamrolled. Your personality, in this moment, perfectly fits everyone that's done that so far and fallen victim to it.

The card looks fun; it's a high-risk high-reward play with a luck factor; those get hype as crap. I can see it as fun; others can see it as fun. Just because it doesn't fit into your own world doesn't make it unfun for anyone else. The game doesn't cater to your needs, so stop assuming it should.

Can I just say how sick I am of hearing "Collector's Pack!!!"

And? A collector's pack is not meant to be s***. You get things like Bermuda Tax in Vanguard, but Bermudas aren't bad cards, even if they're rarely ever/never a top deck.

A company should not be putting out packs of bad cards in the name of collecting. f***, they could just print unplayable cards like that fill your hand to 5 trap if they wanted to  do that, or OG Ra, which came with the XBox game.

Number Hunters gave us Gimmick Puppets, more Chronomalies, and a lot of generic Xyz. Was everything amazing or top tier? No, but there was a good amount of decent or better stuff, without needing to be gimmicky bullshit.

GP, for example, were never great, but they at least functioned and people were able to use them, though they needed other cards to work better.

Dragons of Legends gave us a number of good cards for the time AND for the future. There are some dumb examples here, but not as much as...

DRLG 2. Toons, Red-Eyes, Aquaactress, Legendary Dragons, Prediction Princess. One of these is horribly underdesigned, another was printed only to be neutered, the RE stuff was bad, and the Toon stuff is, well, toon stuff, but reasonable. If not good. This wasn't a collector's pack, it was a supplement to the current game/slight bit of pandering.

But this? CPF1 has this, the 3 Mat Rank 3 which is plain underdesigned (needed effect destruction protection), Numeron Dragon, Uni and Corn, Bladeburner Falcon, Legendary Planets that are unplayable (as of now), Cyber Angels to push Alexis (See: DRLG 2), and other weak or uncalled for s***. Cardians are the most interesting part of this set, and they're a deck of clones. Even Crumble Logos is underdesigned.

Why do you guys think that 905-908 were overall a dip, barring some very obvious exceptions? 908 especially less so, but 905-907 weren't nostalgia and new decks, they were a cheap cash grab. I don't know how the TCG responded, but the OCG basically spit in Konami's face for the underdesigned s*** they were shilling. 909 is somewhat of an apology, if only for 907's sorry ass overall, but that doesn't change how poorly people responded to these sets. Hell, TCG had to introduce the strongest OCG cards to get 907 to move.

"Collector" is a title. It doesn't mean the cards have to suck or be underdesigned, and we've seen a number of inexcusable examples in this set, like Hand-Holdin Genie. It's so obvious that they don't care with cards like that, especially when we look at cards like the Cyber Angels.

Zushin and Genie are basically Konami telling people to f*** off and take what they're given, so stop defending it in the name of collecting. You can collect good cards as well as bad ones.

I think this is the first time I've seen someone prominent here actually speak out against Konami's and Shueisha's bull; this post definitely has very good points I can get behind.

Anyway, regarding this card's "badness", that's typically what happens when Konami piles on one too many restrictions on a Number.

The banish was fine or the SS restriction was fine.  There are not enough numbers from 1-99 that are so good that it's worth both.  In fact it's just about 0.  Really dropped the ball on this one.  Not only that, but even if you are running Imperial Iron Wall, then as soon as Wall gets popped this thing still gets banished at the very next End Phase.  Not even remotely worth playing even in casuals.

The thing is, the 3 mat was actually good design.  When this thing ranks up, it has to detach a material.  By being a 3 mat, it means the monster you rank into will have 3 mats to work with, which some numbers need (for example Number S39: Utopia Prime, though ironically this card can't even summon Prime due to prime being a Number S).  However there is no reason for it to have both of those restrictions.  Shutting down your special summons would be fine, it just means you need to protect it for a turn.  Banishing it would have also been fine, as it means you need to make use of it that turn, or find a way to get it off the field temporarily so that you can make use of it even after your end phase.  But both conditions literally make this unplayable besides grabbing #95 and smacking 2 monsters for 4k.  Such a disappointment.

I really like this card's effect and its element of randomness that makes it seem really exciting, but I also agree they went too far with the restrictions and drawback. At first I thought that requiring 3 materials what a big hindrance, but what Progenitor states makes sense: it gives the new Number enough materials to do its thing.

And I guess to ensure you get the Number you want, you can always forsake your Extra Deck and only run this and 3 copies of the desired Number.

Hmm... it just dawned upon me that this can actually Summon a copy of itself. I wonder if that could be abused somehow... oh wait, the Special Summoning restriction wouldn't allow you to use the effect of a second Number Archive overlaid over the first copy anyway.

Now that I'm looking through the available numbers, I can kinda understand why the restrictions, annoying as they are, are necessary.  I'm not too sure it could get away with having either "No Special Summons" or "Banish the monster during the End Phase".  Remove one of them, and this card could become a huge problem, even with the random summon.

Having only the "Banish the monster" restriction is probably more dangerous imo.  It would leave you open to rank up from that monster to subvert the restriction and there are a fair few Number Xyzs that can Special Summon other monsters.

Having only the "No Special Summons" restriction would make for some more defensive or burst options.  The prime targets would be stuff like Superior Dora or Heart-eartH Dragon.  And since this would "properly" summon the monster, you'd be able to recover it in case the opponent does manage to find a way to keep it in the grave.

This feels amusing, albeit a bit too restrictive, with both the banish and SS restriction, although the latter makes the most sense.

But unless the wording differs and the translation was just chosen as such to reflect the TCG prints, shouldn't the OCG be able to use this to Summon Chaos Numbers and the like?

In the TCG, "specialty" Numbers are called "Number C/F/S/etc" followed by the number, so you can't Summon C39 or similar with this because it's not a "Number 1~Number 99", due to the C being between Number and 39. But the OCG has them printed as "CNo.#", so...it would be a No.1~No.99.

This number has a huge plethora of randomness, which can cause multiple perplexing combos.....interesting, plus it's card design is quite unique and obscure......

Still, it's use is quite limited, considering the huge array of possible cards, thinned out decks might be best.....

So to summarize:

This card has potential due to the large pool and activating during either player's turn, but the set-up and negative effects are so strict that it doesn't even matter, and is not really worth playing.

Not quite. I playtested it a bit, and like I laid out before that are some Xyz monsters that have big enough impacts even in just one turn that it's usable; and the luck factor is still what makes it fun.

Just 2 mats, huh?  Personally, I think it would have been best as "2 or more level 1s", just in case you want 3 mats on the ranked up monster for some reason, but this definitely makes it more playable and easily accessible.

...I'm also just noticing on the wikia that it says "banish the face-up monster Special Summoned by this effect".  Does that mean that Number 24 can protect itself from banishment by using its eff on itself?  Or was that a mistranslation?
