Leicester City Champions Party 2016

Personally really sad that Tottenham has to succumb to their bottling syndrome at this moment. Even with the world putting their hopes into Leicester (including me), it's been a pretty sweet season for Spurs, and them losing their tempo this late blows.

Congrats to Leicester though. Winning by virtue of being the most consistent team is pretty damn good to see when the top table teams are being this wonky. It can't be ever replicated, probably, but they're off to something good if they can keep their spirit and mind on this. Next season will be really damn hard though, since they would have to juggle between the Championship on top of the league. Perhaps keeping consistency during that would be nigh-impossible.

Either way, quite the fun season to watch. Let's see how next one goes (personally can't wait to see Lineker in his undies tho).

I'm being cynical, but I doubt Leicester will do anywhere near as well next season. They'll struggle to keep the likes of Kante and Mahrez and they don't have a deep enough squad to cope with the amount of fixtures they'll have. They will be forced to make rotations, which is bad news for a small squad whose success was built off a very consistent starting 11. They might be able to attract a couple of pretty good replacements, but not without damaging the team spirit that won them the title this season.

Yeah, it's doubtful they'd be nearly as good as this season. At least they should aim for finishing at top ten just to keep the spirit up. Though, I can't see their players or Ranieri would get this win to be way too over their head so I don't think next season would be disastrous at least.

Anything could happen between now and next season, they might actually keep Mahrez (though they have no chance of keeping Kante) and then they could maybe get Champions League, but it's doubtful. Given what one can predict about transfers etc, I would say Leicester will probably finish around 6th or 7th next season.

Top 10 is absolutely achievable next season - you see teams like Stoke and Southampton coming out of nowhere and becoming top 10 fixtures, so there's no reason why Leicester shouldn't be. I really don't see them keeping Kante or Mahrez, especially Kante, but they should be able to keep hold of some of their other top performers like Morgan, Drinkwater, Simpson and Vardy which means they still have a core of quality players. I also wouldn't rule out Schmeichel going to Man United if they lose De Gea because, if Man U really want him, it'd surely be impossible for any Schmeichel to turn down the opportunity to play there.

I hope for their sake that they don't rely on team spirit next season because there's no guarantee it'll be as strong, and instead shop for a bit of quality while keeping the core around. They have money to spend now, at any rate.

I need to post this somewhere, holy funking sheet Sunderland are going to pull the same bollocks as every single year yet again and West Ham are laying a strong claim to Tottenham's bottler trophy. Mad couple of results to come back to.

Yeah Swansea came out of nowhere today. Even as recently as January I was thinking Swansea might go down, now they could finish top half. I have no idea what happened to West Ham. Football is weird.

As far as Leicester are concerned, it's not looking like they're just gonna sit on what they have and over-rely on team spirit. They've been linked to players like Thorgan Hazard and William Carvalho, not huge names but quality players who won't think they're bigger than the club. Leicester's recruitment has shown to be fantastic so who knows what they could achieve in the next few seasons.

Yeah please please please can f***ing Sunderland go down after all these seasons of scraping past, I don't want to watch them anymore. While we're at it, I hope Burnley don't go up either.

edit: never mind, they just did. ffs

Mate. Both of your hatreds are probably happening.

Big Sam's teams don't go down. They just don't. (alsobigsammayactuallymakesunderlanddecentpossibly)

I always thought Swansea were a way better team than their place in the table suggests, so it's good to see them getting some big results. West Ham just weren't at the races yesterday. funking Sunderland though, shows how little Chelsea care about most games at this point.

Also, I just came to the realisation that because City play Arsenal Spurs are almost mathematically guaranteed Champions League, even if Liverpool win the Europa. If City don't win they can't catch us up, and if City do win it'll need an outrageous goal difference swing for Arsenal to catch Spurs. Also 1-0 Spurs wooooo.
