leafbladie
Whelp, decided to review this since I don't think anyone else will since it's so large (though I'm one to talk). Only doing the monster cards for now, because there's way too many to do in one sitting, but I'll hopefully do the Spell/Traps tomorrow. If I miss something because of the Spell/Trap cards that would interact with it, I'm sorry. I'll try to come back to this later. However, I will not be reviewing the pendulums, I don't have a good grasp on what makes a fair pendulum, so I'm just going to ignore them, sorry. Shinigami Sumire: Kind of nice to see something that just grants an extra Normal Summon. So many cards now are focused on Special Summoning. Works well with the archetype as it gets you synchros while still allowing you to use your Shinigami’s Normal Summon effects. I feel like it might be better if the statline is 1550, just so Kozmo Farmgirl can’t destroy her by battle. Shinigami Titania: Banishing card from your opponent’s Graveyard is always useful, unless your going against Kozmos, which really don’t care. Glad you have it so it must be activated by Special Summon to balance it. However, what doesn’t seem balanced is the fact that this can not only be used for a Synchro Summon being as it’s a Tuner, but it can also be used for Xyz Summons since it can match levels, which is a problem I noted with a lot of your other Tuners too. A lot of monsters here are Level 3 and 4, so having access to both of those toolboxes seems too strong. Maybe include a clause that you can’t use this card for Xyz Summon if you do so. Shinigami Vice: Standard extra Special Summon from the hand, nothing too great. That second effect is actually pretty cool, I love effect negation, but I don’t know why your opponent would waste resources to destroy it by card effect when it’s much easier to destroy it by battle. Honestly I think it’d be better to make it trigger by being destroyed by battle, this’ll make your opponent waste resources to destroy it by card effect. Shinigami Joker: Nice, if standard, way to get more non-tuner Synchro materials to the field. I might make it a HOPT, as summoning two of these to the field in one turn seems a bit strong, even if it is unlikely. Shinigami Elise: Again, glad this is a Normal Summon only effect, but it seems less useful as it’s the bottom of the Deck, but that’s just me. Shinigami Ruby: Glad this card has a cost for Special Summon that’s actually relevant to the archetype. Though I’m questioning why you have that random burn damage, which is again activated by card effect destruction, which seems like it’d be better if it was battle. Shinigami Belle: Glad you gave it the condition that it can’t be used for an Xyz Summon. It’s really a bit too powerful for that since Special Summoning is ridiculously prevalent in the meta. Shinigami Cat Girl: Banishing cards from the hand for just summoning, even if it’s Special Summoning, a card is just too strong in my mind. Trishula was banned in part for this reason. Shinigami Wither: The cannot attack clause seems like a bit of a slap on the wrist for the effect. I mean despite it being stronger than most of the Shinigamis in battle power, I can’t imagine using it for attacks. The effect allows you to reuse Tuners, or non-Tuners with ease, and can make an easy R4NK play. Honestly this is just too powerful in my mind. Shinigami Maki: The effect is actually fair, if a bit problematic to yourself. Some decks like Kozmo or Monarchs would love their cards banished so they can recover them later. I definitely wouldn’t risk running this card. Also, the shuffle the Deck part is unnecessary. Shinigami Successor: Honestly I’d change that “When” to an “If”, missing timing on these would be pretty annoying. Its effect upon begin destroyed by card effect is actually pretty nice, a decent and unique way to get Synchro Materials. Shinigami Interceptor: Nice hand Trap, and that 1550 ATK is a blessing as it will most likely be able to stop whatever is summoned in battle. Honestly though for its second effect, if it has to be activated by being destroyed by card effect I think you should at least make it so that it banishes, so as to deal with pesky Field Spells that float into themselves. Shinigami Cowardice: Honestly, that LP cost seems out of place, but I guess it’s better to keep your Tuners from being too easily Special Summoned. I like that you keep the top deck banishing from being easily activated too easily. Shinigami Peacekeeper: Decent way to get your Synchro play while having a cost fitting to the archetype. Not sure why the summoned monster should be destroyed at the End Phase though, since Wither does the same from the Graveyard without needing destruction. Shinigami Serenade: Honestly, that Normal Summon effect is great anti-pendulum support. If this deck was real I’d definitely side this, or even run it in the main deck. The Special Summon effect gives it reason beyond just its banishing effect, as it’s an easy Synchro play too. Shinigami Midnight: The banishing of a Spell/Trap just for summoning seems too strong. Especially since Interceptor only destroy for the stuff that has to be done for its effect to activate. Shinigami Ally: Honestly, as a Gemini this card has its uses. I’m glad it’s inherently slow, because that effect is really too good, and making it a Gemini is a way to make it harder to go into. That said, I’m not sure if it’d be worth it, since you have so many other good cards that are easily Special Summonable. The shuffling into the deck seems a bit powerful though, you could basically spin any problematic card you want if you’re just willing to take some battle damage. Shinigami Minion: Too OP, no other way I can say it. Has an inherently easy Special Summon so that you don’t need to worry about using your Normal Summon, has non-targeting, non-destruction removal that costs almost nothing, and will then be tuned into a Synchro monster which will have an easier field to deal with. I mean the best way to think of it, this card can beat Chaos Maxx Dragon by paying 1000 LP. This card really needs to be toned down, or removed altogether, I’d use this card even though I run Blue-Eyes, which it has no synergy at all with, just because of that ridiculous effect. Shinigami Blasphemy: Honestly the synergy with this archetype seems a bit poor. It looked to me that it was all about synchro summoning, but this card works more as a beat stick honestly. That 4k ATK is good for running over things, but the other two effects seems a bit strange. You didn’t put a limit on how long it gains effects from banished monster, so technically you could stack an infinite amount of effects on it, not that it matters as most Shinigami effects activate upon being Summoned. The changing of level and being treated as a Tuner monster seems unnecessary, as it’d probably be easier to just Special Summon a Tuner from your hand with how you’ve built this archetype. Ultimately I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this card’s use other than beatstick.
