Artifact Moralltach

You can Set this card from your hand to your Spell & Trap Zone as a Spell Card. During your opponent's turn, if this Set card in the Spell & Trap Zone is destroyed and sent to your Graveyard: Special Summon it. If this card is Special Summoned during your opponent's turn: You can destroy 1 face-up card your opponent controls.

 

 

I'm bringing this card up because earlier today I was thinking on how it (along the Sanctum engine) is practically held back by its Limited status, and wondering on its impact if it were to move up in the banlist to Semi-Limited, if not straight Unlimited; then HATs were recently mentioned on the banlist thread in the Theory section, so I figured this should be a good timing for discussing this Artifact.

 

So... does this card have any impact or chance at the current metagame? Would said metagame be able to handle this on a number higher than 1? Would you personally like this card to move up? As for me, yes, I would like to see it move up, preferably straight to 3 mainly for the thrill, but I understand it is unlikely and it should be safer to bet on a Semi-Limit.

Now I'm wondering what sort of metagame powercreep level would it take for this card to become Unlimited. Most likely something insane, but I cannot think of anything specific; formats where everything (including Spell & Traps) float, perhaps?

Deck that senergize with it well need a crotch kick...like Prime Monarch, Summon this jabroni, pop, then go into Bouncer/Furundle?

 

Yeah I'm fine with it at one. You have more than enough good artifacts you can run

What others are there? You have Scythe (which is either hilariously overpowered, or hilariously underpowered), and Moralltach (which is limited). There's no other artifact you want to run in the engine so long as Moralltach is limited.

You also have Ignition and Beagalltach which aren't even part of the engine anymore because the prime incentive of using them is now limited.

Since when are Ignition and Begal gone? They're still pretty common whenever artifacts show up OCG side

 

You can argue they don't do much relative to Scythe and Moral, that I'll give you

With Moralltach @3, you had a much higher chance of drawing it, so they also ran motifs to getting rid of them while already set.

Line-up was usually 3 Moralltach, 1-2 Scythe, and 1-2 Beagalltach, 2-3 Ignition, and 3 Sanctum.

 

However, now with Moralltach losing 2 copies, the chance of opening with an artifact was drastically reduced to the point where back-ups were no longer necessary, so it evolved down into 1 Moralltach, 2 Scythe, 1 Beagalltach, 3 Sanctum, with Ignition being dropped out completely. That eventually lead to the Beagalltach being dropped too. And if Artifacts make a surprise comeback, I doubt Beagalltach will come back, because the sheer amount of backrow (or things that can potentially hit it) hate people are running now (Twin Twisters, Breaksword, Grampulse, MST is still rampant in Kozmos who also have Sliprider, Archfiend Eccentrick etc.), its become extremely likely that they'll ram into your Artifacts anyway, thus causing it to be not necessary to run back-up scenarios.

For that, I think destruction would have to be rendered obsolete (moreso than it already is in some cases), or there'd have to be plentiful target protection.

Moralltach doesn't target

 

That's why it's so strong.  It's non-targeting removal from the deck with 1 card, or backrow hate bait from the hand.  It's too easily abused to have such powerful removal

I miss 2014. Now it's just an Artifact of the past -*shot*

Card is damn good only because it doesn't target, it has Sanctum which is pretty borked, it has good typing, and is backrow bait.

If it did target I think it could come back to 2, maybe even 3.  3 might be pushing it though.  It's still pretty dang stronk even if it DID target
