Starts off like a typical transport into another world fantasy but then goes... dark. Well, I've only watched the first episode so far, which is a double-length episode that many sites split into two. It's two cour and by White Fox so it should be a good watch.

[spoiler=First Impressions]I like it. I have a soft spot for fantasy though. Anyway, the MC is sort of self-insert, but he feels different from the usual hikikomori and he's a dense good guy who doesn't piss me off with his denseness or white knight character. The girl felt tryhard cute at first, but I've started to like her. I don't like having pure evil villains like that though, too stereotypical.

I hope this show is popular in Japan, because White Fox actually put in effort to make something good and not a rushed show for quick money that's all too common these days. It would encourage a bit more quality stuff to be produced.

[spoiler=latest]I hope he doesn't have to reset again, and I'm thinking he may not because it'd be far too easy if he did after he's solved all the mystery. He earned it this time.

I think some Deus ex machina will save him. Guessing Roswaal never actually left, just pretended to leave in order to test Subaru.

It's not topping the chart (that would be Kabaneri last I checked) but it's in the top 5 or so. Plus this one's two cours in the first place so at least it won't be ending any time soon. I haven't read the WN/LNs but White Fox's quality is shining here. There's real effort put in, not just to the animation but to the directing and presentation overall.

[spoiler=latest episode]funking cliffhanger. Was really hoping this second arc would conclude by now but this is fine too. By the end though, I suspect my sentiments on the arc will be that it was an episode too long.

It'd really funking suck if he died again. Sure, we don't know why the dog was cursing him but the main objective of this set of loops was to find the culprit and he has done that. Undoing Emilia's scene and the maids' development would suck even worse.

Rem screen time is nice but I want more Ram. Ram > Rem.

The turn towards the darker really changed my opinion on this anime. Until the last loot battle with Elsa I was getting really annoyed with the characters. Like I couldn't stand Subaru's general attitude, and his stupidity didn't help. However the biggest turning point for me was when Rem killed him in the second arc. It really made me feel for both characters.

Anyway really excited to see what will hopefully be the conclusion of the second arc in the next episode. It's funny I was watching the 7th episode and was really hoping this would be two cours, and lo and behold I look at this thread and wish granted!

The cliffhangers funking hurt. This episode was entirely too short, I want more, more! Can't say I have a complaint about the pacing anymore.

You know, Rem was starting to win my heart over, then bestcar rammed- uh, threw her.

Using the ban on telling like that is funking GENIUS.

And this show is really gorgeous in terms of animation. Rem's gymnastics is one to behold.

I caught up with Re:Zero this week, it's a pretty fun show. Pretty good animation and handling of character moments too for a LN adaptation. I also liked moments where Rem killed Subaru and the tensions emanating from that scene and action from fights like the recent Rem stuff or the tavern fight in episode 3.

I wouldn't call it AOTS, but definitely one of the better titles.

It's funny I went back and watched the first couple episodes recently with some of my friends, and I felt really liked him right away, and didn't find myself getting annoyed with the stuff I originally found myself being annoyed with. Idk if it's my change in perspective, or what but my opinion on Subaru did like a complete 180

[spoiler=ep]I saw it coming, but I still don't like that they had to rely on Roswaal's super op-ness in the end.

So I assume Roswaal is like one of the people of legend or some sheet. Or very related.

[spoiler=ep stuff]yeah, I was sorta hoping Subaru had an actual trump card. Using his magic as a smokescreen was nice but it didn't work. Copout aside I'm glad Roswaal appeared. I love that guy's way of pronouncing things. Sticks in your head.

The third arc(which apparently should cover all of the second half of the anime) will apparently worldbuild a lot so we might find out then, idk.

Wow, this episode was some serious, serious worldbuilding. Won't lie, really missed the three bandits and old man Rom and Reinhardt. And Felt too, naturally. Damn, what an entrance.

[spoiler=SPECULATION TIME]i'm reading tooooooo much into this but the way Priscilla acts so confident that everything goes according to her wishes and all somehow made me think that either she or more likely her knight might have powers similar to Subaru's time loop. If I can take her words at face value, then a time resetting knight who keeps everything going just how she wants it makes a lot of sense, and with the way the show is, he's definitely funking suspicious enough. I'm reaching reaaaaally far with this but considering this show I wouldn't be surprised. The weird fashion sense(namely the helmet) could be to hide his face that's deformed from all the time loops or some sheet. The entire episode I had this feeling of unease and paranoia and I guess that's why I'm calling on something so baseless happening.

Great episode. I feel Priscilla is a little cliche but I like those kind of characters.

[spoiler=wow]I was reading the MAL discussion and apparently they omitted in this episode that Al also comes from another world, so you have good intuition.

Also, I got what the old Butler meant but apparently a lot of people didn't, leading them to go into a lot of speculation. The translation saying Subaru has experienced death is kind of misleading, the Butler recognizes Subaru as someone who has many life or death experiences/near-death experiences.

Goddamn. Even more so than usual I can not wait for the next episode. If it's 'omitted in this episode' then I guess it's not some big reveal that happens way later on, which is cool I guess.

Did the butler's line spur speculation? I thought it was pretty clear it meant that.

I'm pretty glad the show skipped its OP and ED sequence to fit in more screentime this time, but I do want to see the new OP that we'll hopefully get for the current arc sometime soon.

Hate to interrupt the convo (short term I made up for conversation), but wanted to ask a few things about this, on a thread that is actually related.

1. As a guy who doesn't (wow I spelled that right in one go) watch anime that often (or that all), and only knows English, but is interested, should I watch?

2. If yes, where on the Internet can I watch either a good dub or the original with English subtitles?

3. What the **** is this show about anyway, and how good is it? (Don't make it too long, please.)

It may or may not require you to be a tad bit familiar with the whole 'transported into a different world' schtick but I don't think it's that hard to get. Might as well give a watch and see. It's not like watching a show requires that much commitment.

2. If yes, where on the Internet can I watch either a good dub or the original with English subtitles? Google. Or Crunchyroll for the legal route if you're into that sorta thing. It's ongoing so I doubt it has a dub yet too.

3. What the **** is this show about anyway, and how good is it? (Don't make it too long, please.) Google. And it's one of the most discussed shows this season, make of that what you will.

I mean, there are better shows to introduce you to the genre, but I guess it's okay to watch this show. As Mitcher said, the show is best watched if you're genre-savvy and familiar with Japanese pop culture because the main character is a nerd who makes references now and then, and this show is a dark twist on the transported to another world trope that is common nowadays in light novels. Nevertheless, on its own it's a pretty good fantasy thriller.

Almost all anime can be watched subbed. Legal route is Crunchyroll. I shouldn't be pointing you to where to torrent or stream it so, you gotta find that yourself.

I was told this was among the best, if not the best, anime of the season so I'm following it along My Hero Academia and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress.

[spoiler=Thoughts]

I have liked it so far and even some of the touching moments reached me. The dog mabeasts were cool, and Roswaal is my favorite character so far. My only complain is when the main character will realize that he is no match in that world without any fighting skills and will begin taking advantage of his time rewinding power/curse to learn to use a weapon and/or magic instead of wasting time with butler activities and awkwardly trying to impress. It made me more impatient knowing that, from his comments in the first episodes, he is familiar with fantasy settings and games, and yet it doesn't occur to him yet to prepare himself as a fighter.

[spoiler=bloody funking episode 13]That was really, really kinda unpleasant. And I feel it was probably difficult for the writer to explore this side of Subaru. It felt bad to watch but it speaks volumes about his character and that's great. In the last episode I can sort of still sympathize with Subaru. Disobeying Emilia and entering the royal hall could've been due to a genuine fear that she'd get assassinated and that his Death by Return won't be able to save her. He acted stupid at times but hey, sheet'll reset on death and it's worth it to keep Emilia-tan alive. But this episode comes... That purple-haired bishie was acting pretty damn agreeable considering his position and how Subaru's treated him, and unless Reinhardt's view of Subaru changed after this then Reinhardt's a goddamn saint. Subaru's actions have been justified thus far because everything so far was on a smaller, much more personal level and he's pretty much thrust into a loop before he has any real chance to settle down so exploring this was cool.

I suppose this episode is the author's way of exploring how Emilia from the first episode and the current Emilia is not one and the same and I really like that, because that distinction's been bugging me for a while. The development he's had with Emilia in the first episode didn't happen as far as she's concerned so her actions up until this point has always felt a little superficial. Sure, she's tried damn hard to understand Subaru(muh lap pillow) but ultimately she's not the Emilia Subaru's been helped by. It's always bugged me a little, didn't expect it'll get addressed at all so this is nice.

The only way the author can screw this up is by resetting the sheet Subaru's pulled in this and the previous episode. Subaru hasn't been ruined at all, this was essential to deepen Subaru's character as much as it may hurt to watch. Keep going, show me what'll happen, you can do it, whoever's writing this.

On a final note when Subaru was asked if he had the resolve to match the knights, he funking died over and over again for her, damn it. Sure he can't just say that out loud but he had something he could hold his head high for (unlike the sheet he's been pulling this episode), there was no need to be intimidated by that. Something like "I may not have a knight's resolve but I can die for Emilia" would've been just fine. I guess the author/studio didn't want to do that to portray Subaru's motivation as being self-satisfaction later in the episode, I guess.

On a lighter note, Felt is as fun as ever. Explains why Old Man Rom was near the scene last episode as well.
