Thomas★Zero Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon Rank 8 LIGHT Dragon/Xyz/Effect 2 Level 8 monsters Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster your opponent control; take control of it until the End Phase, and if you do, its name and ATK become the same as this card's, but its effects are negated. ATK/3000 DEF/2500 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

evilfusion Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 This intrigues me a great deal. Not only is it yet another excellent Galaxy-Eyes monster, but its effect is interesting. The anime Cipher theme seems to be monsters with the same name, but more flexible than anime RR support. I wonder if Cipher as an archetype will get released to capitalize on this sort of effect, but ideally, I'd want them to in some way further support Galaxy or Photons. I'd argue that capitalizing on monsters with the same name is what Heraldics/Heraldry should have been about (given what they're based on, and Number 18 seemed to want to go in that direction), but this guy is pretty neat. IQuitDolphin Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 It's a generic snatch steal. Isn't that...a little too non-restrictive? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
heraldry_lord Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 It's a generic snatch steal. Isn't that...a little too non-restrictive? It's Brain Control, not Snatch Steal. Big Eye is a generic permanent Change of Heart that's 1 Rank lower, and its drawback is itself not being able to attack that turn, but the stolen monster's effects can still be used and it can still attack. This thing's effect is actually Brain Control, and its drawback is that the stolen monster's effects are negated. So, I'm not bothered by it, to be honest. Bringerofcake Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 Honestly I'm more disappointed by the fact that Kaito leads off with Cipher card in the anime rather than Photon/Galaxy cards Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Toffee. Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 How charming, they made a Cipher Dragon that can manipulate other monsters. .... But seriously.... This card is interesting. Mainly because it gives you another Galaxy monster(on the off chance you need more names for things). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
玄魔の王 Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 Kinda odd how this is nothing like the effects of any prior Galaxy-Eyes, but a Rank 8 Big Eye is useful if nothing else. The anime Cipher theme seems to be monsters with the same name, but more flexible than anime RR support.Or like the OCG-original Photon stuff, which loved the same name theme. Lizardonx Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 Wow it's better than RDASR already. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
heraldry_lord Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 Wow it's better than RDASR already. It better be if I'm going to overlay 2 Scarlights into it. :V Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Slinky Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 This thing is OP. Not being permanent doesn't matter. Because you really only need to do it once to kill your opponent anyway. That, and its a guarenteed 6k Swing regardless of the ATK of the stolen monster. All you need is stuff that adds up to 2k. EDIT: Major plusses happen when you overlay Cipher into #95 after. You get to mill your sheet, banish your opponents sheet, and attack twice if they have other monsters, otherwise its 7k damage and major plussing. Jord200 Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 Not at all what I had expected, but it is still great. I am curious to see more of Arc V Kaito's cards. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
~~~~ Posted April 10, 2016 Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 Wouldn't it have been hilarious if they'd given this card the same restriction as big eye: that it can't attack this turn? lol Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
evilfusion Posted April 11, 2016 Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 Honestly I'm more disappointed by the fact that Kaito leads off with Cipher card in the anime rather than Photon/Galaxy cards I'm not sure what the significance will be for his archetype being Cipher, but I gathered that Kaito's Photon theme in Zexal was due to Dr. Faker's alliance with the Barian World. It was said that his Deck was created using science from a different dimension, and the reason he had Photon Mode was most likely to keep him from being possessed by the Numbers he was hunting. Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon was also, in some way, directly associated with No.62. Since the Xyz Dimension is almost definitely unrelated to the Numbers, Kaito would not possess Photon Mode, and by extension, anything associated with "Photon" cards. He could still have Galaxy support, though, but Galaxy seems geared specifically to support Galaxy-Eyes, and Arc-V's Kaito has Galaxy-Eyes in the form of an Xyz, rather than a Main Deck card. Cipher appears to be an obscure reference to the Numbers, and I guess Number 62 as a result - the word used to be used to refer to the number Zero. Tinkerer Posted April 11, 2016 Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 So if you happened to nab an opponent's Xyz monster, could you rank up into the other Galaxy-Eyes monsters? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
evilfusion Posted April 11, 2016 Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 So if you happened to nab an opponent's Xyz monster, could you rank up into the other Galaxy-Eyes monsters? Yes, since it'd be considered a "Galaxy-Eyes" Xyz monster. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
White Void Posted April 11, 2016 Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 Something about this is getting changed in real life when it comes out. Snatching a monster, making it into a "clone", and overlaying Full Armor/Dark Matter on top of both seems a bit....too strong for just 2 level 8s. I've always liked the idea of manipulating names as a mechanic though. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
