Losing

Snatch Steal

Recommended Posts

In order for there to be a winner, there must be a loser. Without a loser, no one can win.

Even knowing this, I hate to lose. Every time I go on a losing streak, I get, as people say, "Salty," a term coined in the ignorance of basement-dwellers to depict someone who doesn't practice enough and is thus not as skilled as they are, as their life isn't entirely focused on that game.

No matter what I say or do, or how hard I practice, nothing ever comes out of it, and it makes me sick.

Thoughts?

Even the greatest of all time lose their chosen game/task sometimes, so I figure, doesn't it make sense I will lose too sometimes at least?

It's not too bad for me cause after the initial disappointment I know I have more than that lose to enjoy in life.

The worst is when someone is a sore winner though. That's when you have to just leave it and move on.

I get what you are saying, being a(n occasional) bitter loser myself. Do you feel as if you cannot accept losing, to the point of lashing out on other people or obsessing over it for days. Been there, and still go there occasionally. The most difficult thing about this is that we know it is not healthy to feel like this, hmm? Worse, we want to stop feeling like this and we cannot, and it makes us feel horrible. :(

So, try to do what I do, reflect and learn from those losses. Ask yourself why is this so hard to accept a loss. For me, it's the feeling of inadequacy when I lose. Coming to term with that, I rarely see my green-eyed monster anymore. Rarely.

(Though I do hope you aren't feeling bitter after losing a duel on DN or something. That's just weird. Like super weird.)

The main thing that can bug me is if I'm having a bad day playing a video game, but even then I only get mildly irritated if I'm fighting against the computer. I make a point never to act up against friends because it's all in good fun. I don't feel irritated in sports or board games either, playing the game itself is more fun than winning/losing in those instances.

I have this one friend I play in Smash who's helped desensitize me to losing; I win about 5% of the matches we play together.

I have a natural inferiority complex, which kinda curses me in terms of a competitive environment. If I'm up against something who wants to win against me in order to pursue their wishes for whatever reason, I'm inclined to accept my fate and let them have what they want. In my opinion, getting worked up over the will to win only sets me up for greater disappointment. I'm better off being slightly disappointed in losing than being greatly disappointed in losing after wanting to win. Just my opinion.

In recent times I have begun to lose a lot less compared to several years ago. This is because I pick my 'fights' more wisely and avoid ones I know that I may not win in. I partake in several competitive online games recently and am mediocre at worst in a few, but I don't let it bring me down, I all need is practice. I am not really that competitive in nature so perhaps tat is why I don't take it as seriously.

Humans are relative creatures. We experience pleasure by means of comparison. If you keep winning and never losing, you never realize what you have.

A somewhat similar connection to Drugs can be made, People always on stimulants like Cocaine (lol) start to forget what original happiness is, and thus their "increased pleasure" from cocaine becomes meaning and the new normal.

In this regard, winning will lose it's attractiveness, and every loss will hurt that much more
