Astro Dude
Has anyone started a thread on this? I guess I'm the first. Ahem: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney is getting an anime. Many questions will arise: "Will the anime be based off the game?" If so it will be about... 20 episodes, 4 for each case and just from game 1. I notice that Mia Fay will be in it and she'll probably die by the end of episode 2. Or maybe this is an alternate universe where Mia is still alive. It's possible. Like I said, many questions will arise. Will other seasons arise from this? Only time, will tell.

Shradow
Based on the trailers at least the beginning part will be based off the game, we've got Larry Butz and Frank Sahwit so it's almost assuredly going to be The First Turnabout chapter from the beginning of the first game. Given that the Thinker clock is prevalent in the following case with Mia's death that will probably follow after. I'm excited either way, and this will tide me over until Ace Attorney 6 launches later this year.

Hallohallo
Well the first episode is out and I already like the opening. I think they did pretty well adapting the first case of the game. I'm so used to localized English names, so it's weird to see people called as their original names, but I think I'll get used to it. I wouldn't mind getting a dub. According to the wiki, the anime will adapt the first 2 games.
Shradow
Well the music did not disappoint, with the remixes of the Cross Examination and Objection themes, but I'm still waiting on the Pursuit theme. But the adaption is on point so far. EDIT: Seeing people on other forums complain that the tutorial case was too simple. lol

If this anime is popular enough, a second season will be made and adapts to Apollo Justice and Dual Destinies. Though with the poster... It would be kinda weird to have a soon to be dead character on the poster, but who knows. Anyway, a dub would be nice, and they have to have Sam Reigel as Phoenix Wright. It just works. In fact: Laura Bailey as Mia FeyTravis Willingham as Miles EdgeworthTom Kenny as Winston PayneYuri Lowental as Larry ButzKeith Silverstein as Detective Dick Gumshoe. Not a bad starting cast huh? Also, if I had to guess, episode 1 is Phoenix's first day in court, EPisode 2, Maya fey, episode 3 Will Power, 4 and 5 Manfred Von Karma, episode 6, Damon Gant, 7 is ascot guy, 8 is Franziska Von Karma, 8 is whatever episode 3 in Justice for All is, but parts 9 - 12, that is Matt EnGarde. mitchermitcher
Somehow I got to watching this. It felt pretty cheap but coulda been a lot worse too. The image of a lawyer riding a cheap bike to the courtroom fits 'I see'-kun pretty well, and conveys the quirkier side of the series in the first few seconds nicely. It was pretty nice to see how the court works in animation instead of just through game mechanics. Still, Ace Attorney's rather unique in its presentation so they had to keep some stylistic elements in the animated adaptation and I guess I'm fine with that even if I feel it doesn't fit very well. Soundtrack is so-and-so. It was nice to hear remixes of some of the themes, although I'm not sure how much of the soundtrack should they adapt and how much should be original. A track that works for a game won't necessarily feel right in an anime and all. The opening sucks though. Ending is A-OK. Voices are A-OK. Yuki Kaji as Feenie felt natural enough, unexpectedly. I'm glad they got the intro case out of the way quickly. Wish they'd skip Turnabout Big Top when they get to it. 1 cour for 2 games feel a little rushed, probably. And they probably will skip the Rise from the Ashes case too, since it was added later on. Even then it's going to feel rushed as sheet. Mostly for JFA's cases. Cutting out the tutorial case of JFA as well, JFA still has 2 really important cases that honestly deserve more than just two or three episodes. And the original game, the second case is upcoming and that's okay, but they can't skip the third case since it introduces characters that come back for JFA's last case, and the fourth case is naturally really important and deserves a good few episodes to itself too. I sorta wish they made a series of anime movies instead of a 12 episode show.
Shradow
Well there's already been a live action movie, I'd be kind of annoyed if they did more movies instead of a series.
mitchermitcher
Well, no, I mean, an animated movie, like Kara no Kyoukai or the Madoka movies. Wouldn't the format be perfect for AA? A movie per case. Suppose this was a movie then they could bundle up the first two cases as a single film since the murder weapon links both. The Edgeworth case and the Engarde case would each get a 2 hour film, which could be enough. Plus movies tend to have better animation than a weekly series. Episode 1 will be the tutorial, Mia defending Phoenix Wright.Episode 2 introduces Godot, and is the Mask de Masque case.Episode 3 is the Furio Tigre case.Episode 4, Phoenix is lost.Episode 5: Investigation and Terry Fawles flashback.Episode 6: Dahlia ressurected.Episode 7: Godot Revealed. Shradow
Ema's introduction is somewhat important for Apollo Justice.
mitchermitcher
Ema Skye, God bless her cuteness, is not relevant in the context of the first two games, or within the original trilogy at all. In the first place, Rise from the Ashes is sort of a tie-in prequel to Apollo Justice, if anything. RotA should be saved for an OVA released before an Apollo Justice adaptation release, if we'll ever get to that. Maggie Byrde is even less relevant, and reappears only in one case in the third game. While that case does foreshadow some things in regards to Godot, it was mostly irrelevant and can sorta be cut out as well if needed. I sort of enjoyed the tutorial case in JFA but it really isn't needed in an adaptation.
Shradow
Yeah, I was thinking a side OVA would fit perfect for RotA.
Astro Dude
Now we just need to wait if the Maya Fey case is a two-parter.
mitchermitcher
It's at least a 2 parter. The episode's name indicates that, if I remember right. They really wouldn't be able to fit anywhere near enough into a single episode.
Astro Dude
You may be right: Maybe I wasn't clear with this... Sorry for spoiling the anime. Anyway, since the anime is based on the games I would imagine this case being at least 3 episodes long.
Astro Dude
bump: What, no one responds? Anyway, episode 2 came out. A shame for men we don't see April May step out of the shower.
Shradow
I like the small scenes that the anime has to add since it's a different form of storytelling from the games, like Phoenix actually sneaking into and out of her room and actually passing by the bellboy that's important later. Astro Dude
You know, I would not be surprised if episodes 2 through 5 were based on Turnabout Sisters.
Catman25
Pacing does seem like it might be inconsistent, but I guess we'll see. I like it so far, didn't have too many expectations going into it though. All I really want is TT case 5 though
