Doesn't Devil have 2800 DEF, not 1800?

 

It's a plot device. It could possibly be super-flexible in Materials, like 2 Ancient Gears. Or it could require 2 Ancient Gear Soldiers. Which on that note, the Fusion Materials required have absolutely nothing to do with the result. 2 Soldiers = ...a defensive metal demon? Admittedly, Chaos Giant had nothing to do with the Hound Dog Fusions, but that at least had the "escalating Materials" thing, with 2 Dogs = Double Bite. 3 Dogs or Double Bite + Dog = Triple Bite. No idea what Ultimate Hound required (Triple + Hound? 2 Double Bites? 4 Hounds?). And all of them made Chaos Giant.

 

And yes, the whole "Academia Antique Gears = Burn Fusion Deck" is getting a bit wearisome, because it's looking like Academia literally just thrives on ganging up on people and winning via attrition with burn effects, rather than an actual battle.

Chaos Giant was made of the dogs, iirc. Had them as shoulders and the like.

Also, Ancient Gears were a beatdown deck? Why is Arc-V turning them into a burn deck?

 

I mean, I know most AGs screw up the idea of Action Cards, but then just used some different fusion archetype than Ancient Gears!

To be fair, many AG cards used in decks were never seen in the anime anyways. AG Gadiltron Dragon and Geartown were never used by Crowler, or anyone else really. So they never made them like they used too in general.

 

Plus Ancient Gear Explosive and Ancient Gear Tank also caused burn in some way or another. So, it's not as if the burn wasn't there before. Hell, both Chimera and Dragon also has burn effects.

I was about to say that myself. Their only real play was play Geartown, then set a new field spell to pop it (before the rule change). That's literally the depth and breadth of AG plays.

Pretty much. Their cards are all over the place, with the Gadjiltrons not even tangentially relating to the original stuff.

Yeah, tbh, if not for AG Golem not being Special Summonable, he would have replaced Dragon in Geartown decks. I mean, from a distance, they're a beatdown deck that tries to OTK, otherwise, well, they don't even have any lower levels even worth summoning. Knight is a freaking gemini, and Soldier is far too weak to do anything. They HAVE no real playstyle, so might as well use burn, since it combos nicely with their beatdown. Weaken your opponent with burn, then use their AG clause to skirt BP spells/traps for heavy damage.

If they also get a RotA of some kind or easier access to Gear Gigant X, they could do a bit better. Not a lot, just a bit.

Fair call, granted, AG would have been helped more if Ancient Gear Box could search more than just Cannon and Knight. They might as well have called it a Geargiabox for how much it benefits Geargia instead of Ancient Gears.

Pretty much. I'm fairly sure they just called it that so it wouldn't be a Geargia monster.

I hope they release the new Ancient Gears in the Fusion booster SP (supposing they release one). It would make sense as in both High-Speed Riders and Wing Raiders there was a new non-anime theme (PSY-Frame, Quantums), a new anime archetype (Speedroids, Phantom Knights, presumably Predator Plants next, although it is also possible they will be in Invasion of Venom), and support for an already existing archetype (Resonator/RDA, Raidraptor, maybe Ancient Gears).

 

Basically I just want them to get released somewhere. The stall-burn theme seems fun to use and the bosses are awesome.

They'll likely be released eventually, but what Ancient Gears really need is consistency.

That is not entirely correct, first of all they need plays worth being consistent, afterwards they require consistency ... hopefully the dog fusions float, we get a buffed chaos fusion and dog can fuse from the hand.

Ultimate Golem is a massive damage machine already, I'd call him worth being consistent for.
