Man Arrested 15 Years After Not Returning VHS Tape

A Concord man says he was arrested after being pulled over during a traffic stop for a movie he forgot to return more than 15 years ago.

 

According to Concord Police, officers pulled over James Meyers Jr. Tuesday night and found that he had a warrant for his arrest that has been pending since 2002, The warrant was issued by J&J Video out of Salisbury.

 

Meyer posted on his Facebook page that he didn't return a VHS version of Tom Green's "Freddy Got Fingered" in 2001 and noted that the video store closed down more than a decade ago.

 

According to police, the officer allowed Meyers to arrange a time to come to the Concord Police Department to be served with the arrest warrant. Meyers reportedly came to police later that day to be served.

 

Meyers was handcuffed and taken to the Cabarrus County Magistrates Office where he gave a written promise to appear in court. According to police, officers are required by policy to handcuff anyone in custody prior to entering the secured area inside of the magistrate’s office.

 

Meyers story circulated online after he was arrested and his friend sent information to actor Tom Green, whose movie wasn't returned.

 

"Tom Green calls me from Australia at 1:30 a.m. to personally apologize for what happened," Meyers wrote on his Facebook page early Thursday morning. "[He] told me he couldn't believe what went down."

 

"When I answered the phone he said 'DADDY WOULD YOU LIKE SOME SAUSAGE??'" Meyers said quoting a famous line from the movie. "I just about died."

 

Green tweeted about Meyers' arrest as well, saying "I just saw this and I am struggling to believe
