Icy Posted March 17, 2016 Report Share Posted March 17, 2016 This originally started out as a kind of competition between me and Koko due to the Smear vs Night thread. However she soon stopped due to "I can't be bothered".I continued on however as I liked the progress I was making. We had to turn a pokemon into a digimon and I rolled Cyberdramon Without explaining the rules, this is my result after I want to say 6hrs of continuous work?For anyone who wants the .GAL file to see the previous major steps and what I used for references:https://www.dropbox.com/s/1bctggud4hsm1w8/Justimonspritecomp.gal?dl=0You will need GraphicsGale or a compatible program to open it. Don't hesitate to ask questions either. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dad Posted March 17, 2016 Report Share Posted March 17, 2016 Looks like a bit of a cross between Blaziken and Cyber Dragon. Idk much about Digimon, but I know this is pretty bad ass. I lack the knowledge to give it any artistic critique, so I'll simply leave it at, "I really like this sprite." Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Toffee. Posted March 17, 2016 Report Share Posted March 17, 2016 Trying to figure out what you used for a base sprite; Looks somewhere between Rhydon and Aggron. That aside, this turned out really fantastic. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
~~~~ Posted March 17, 2016 Report Share Posted March 17, 2016 Was the base sprite Excadrill? If this was a Pokemon, what type(s) would it be? Brilliant work by the way. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Night Posted March 18, 2016 Report Share Posted March 18, 2016 Feels a bit stocky, could do with some refining around the body, doesn't make too much sense that the thing's got six pack abs without the torso shape to support it. The shading on the legs is slightly wonky as well, might be the stark contrast between light and dark, maybe darkening slightly the lightest tone would make it a lot smoother. Wings are just filthy m8, liking that a lot. Overall a really cool sprite though, looks significantly better zoomed in, but very nice nonetheless.You can tell that a lot of work was put into it, something I've always appreciated seeing from you. Glad you're back for that sole reason, your work ethic and eye for detail when it comes to design is quite commendable. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Wings are just filthy m8, liking that a lot. Yeah, I'll give you that. I thought about extending the torso so I could make it look a lot thinner and balance out the shapes more but I wanted to stick to a pixel height of under 100. However at the same time I felt stuck with the "abs" because a prominent feature of Cyberdramon is in fact his abs. I could soften it but then I'd be worried about it being too soft and him looking fat instead of bulky. The legs too, oh god the legs. The perspective, the angles, the everything. It was a miracle just shaving off the 3-4 pixels around and adding at least 5 to the height that I did without killing it. To get all the features in and proportions though that part was so necessary. The poor lighting is just a consequence of that and me not knowing what to do there. The wings though, yea <3. Easiest part but funnest for me right next to doing the head piece. Overall a really cool sprite though, looks significantly better zoomed in, but very nice nonetheless.You can tell that a lot of work was put into it, something I've always appreciated seeing from you. Aww, you're making me blush. I just do what I can and have fun with it. Learning new things along the away. Like in this case, how to force perspective (though not very well) on a metal face for spriting among other things. Honestly though, most of the work was making it so diverse in shape and color while using those 4 shades of black/grey which dominate the sprite. So much back and forth getting it what I felt was acceptable. Glad you're back for that sole reason, your work ethic and eye for detail when it comes to design is quite commendable. Not sure what to say about this except that its nice to be appreciated. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Smear Posted March 19, 2016 Report Share Posted March 19, 2016 Damn this is a really good Cyberdramon. If I remember correctly, Cyberdramon was a lot darker and I think a bit slimmer. Other than that it's pretty much freakin' spot on. How many different types of Pokemon went into this to turn it into a damn Digimon? Solid work. Aggron for steel texture references and a darker shade of grey, Crobat for the wings and maybe one other reference. Its like 90% scratch work from references . And as said above, the reason its not leaner is that I wanted the sprite to be under 100x100 pixels. The .GAL will have anything technical I missed. MiracleGhost47 Posted March 20, 2016 Report Share Posted March 20, 2016 http://prntscr.com/ahhw6wthere's a gap here withe the claw. Also, pokemon-styled sprites don't have completely black borders. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
