Sethera
[spoiler=v.1] [spoiler=v.2] Hey all. So I have some experience in art, but it's in drawing/painting/spriting, not making tags, but they look cool, so I thought I'd try my hand at 'em again (first time was Cow's sig). So I would appreciate any feedback, stuff I can improve on, tips, etc, thanks.
(GigaDrillBreaker)
That glow effect really draws away from the focal, I'd say.
Sethera
Well I was going for the idea of the light bursting out from the guitar, but...guess that didn't really work the way I hoped it would.
(GigaDrillBreaker)
I'm really fond of the way you work with light. That said, the palette for this piece feels really limiting, and as a whole it doesn't feel... dynamic enough, I suppose would be the word I'm looking for. I wish I could offer more, but I am even less experienced here than you.
Sethera
Thanks, light is one of my favorite aspects of art, so I like to play around with it. I get what you mean with the palette though. I have a fondness for unifying colors, and anything I have a fondness for I tend to go overboard on, and make it almost monochrome. ^^;
Simping For Hina
You have nice atmosphere, but your lighting is completely off with this piece. Also, utilize text around the manipulation of the rule of thirds. It helps with placement. Around the "A.III.0" Section of Rai's kickass tutorial on art shizzlenuts, here mentions how to work with the rule of thirds: http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/246980-cr-hq-a-tutorial-to-tags-art-and-other-stuff/
Sethera
Ugh you caught me in my laziness in not wanting to have to edit Yui's shading and stuff. XDAlso I know about the rule of thirds (though I prefer the golden ratio), but I felt like doing it the way an artist signs their name in the corner, mainly cuz it felt a bit empty there without it but idk could be fine with just some negative space there. I might fiddle around with this piece some more keeping your advice in mind when I feel less lazy. xD
Simping For Hina
Don't be lazy, man. And if you were signing things, don't make it so big and take over a piece. Don't try to make it another focal.
Sethera
Easier said than done, man. T_T But yeah I understand. I don't usually cut corners but recoloring/reshading images I haven't drawn myself is a bit of a pain. And yeah true, idk I was worried people wouldn't be able to read it, which now that I think about it, was kind of a dumb thing to worry about. Simping For Hina
Then, use the shading to your advantage then re-highlight. When a render has its own light sources, work with them.
Sethera
But I like the light source where it is for the whole "glowing angel wing and coming out of the guitar" feel. But, well I'll try and work this out somehow. Might have to bite the bullet and re-shade her.
