[MtG] [SOI] Daily Spoilers 14/03

Confirmed 4 planeswalkers. They'll probably break the five-planeswalker rule. Which is interesting.

Well, original Zendikar did have 6, so it won't be a completely new thing. (and I'm not even counting M13 and M15 that also had 6 each).

Yea, the 6th isn't that uncommon. Lili will obviously be in Moon and my guess is Tamiyo will be number 6. I was curious what the color break down would be since at 5 they couldn't have both Tamiyo and Jace since both would be mono-blue.

As it stands I'd expect

White-Black: Sorin

Blue: Jace, Tamiyo

Black: Lili

Red-White: Nahiri

Green: Arlinn

It's not entirely new, but the 5 planeswalker rule was only introduced in September 2014, so none of the sets named actually fall under that paradigm. Since then, I don't think the rule has been broken.

What makes you say it was introduced in 2014? The general rule since their introduction has been 5 with a 6th showing up here and there. Plus Mark has said they can deviate from that.

Wait, so no Tibalt in SOI?

It is unlikely.

By 2014, I mostly mean about the time they introduced the two-set paradigm. They reinforced their 5-planeswalker rule in more explicit wording during the big update. Admittedly, the only precedent at the moment if BFZ block, but SOI would represent the first time they've broken the rule in the new paradigm.

Wait, so no Tibalt in SOI?

We've seen neither hide nor hair of Tibalt in SOI-related art or media so far. I don't think that's going to change, sadly enough.

Anguished Unmaking: Terribly flavor text, amazing everything else. Will almost certainly see Modern play. Don't really have anything else to say here.

Startled Awake // Persistent Nightmare: That flavor. Ungghhhh. I didn't know how badly I'd want a card for flavor until now. I'll be forcing my friend to shove this into his Phenax EDH deck, come hell or high water.

Sinister Concoction: And this is going into Karador posthaste. The discard may be the worst part of the cost, but having a general that treats the graveyard as a second hand neutralizes that downside. With that aside, this is an excellent deterrent.

Descend upon the Sinful: A better Final Judgment. Not gonna complain there, but since I don't want to exile my own stuff in the deck where this'd go, I have to pass.

Drogskol Cavalry: Cute for casual spirit tribal? The mana costs are way too high to justify running it in anything but, though.

Nephalia Moondrakes: This feels even worse than the above. Battleflight Eagle doesn't need a reinventing, and if I wanted to give all my guys flying I'd just run Wonder. Pass on all fronts.

Nahiri, the Harbinger: Boros gets card selection? Who killed the color pie? Jokes aside, a very solid 'walker overall. Her ultimate feels a bit underwhelming, though, but the flavor seems to point more and more towards the Emrakul theory. 8)

Neglected Heirloom // Ashenmouth Blade: Bit of a shame that they didn't make "transform matters" into a limited archetype as was originally suggested in the preview article. This would've been a really cool enabler.

Wolf of Devil's Breach: Would it be too much to ask to give this puppy haste or trample? Right now, he just seems too expensive for the effects that he has. (I can admit, though, that letting his burn hit the face would be a very bad idea.)

If both Jace and Tamiyo show up in the pair of sets, there's a high possibility that one of them is either gonna wind up multicolored or a flipwalker with different colors in each side.

Now, if I tried to put the above-listed walkers into their colors, with multicolored/flipwalkers being listed in all of their colors, this happens...

White: Sorin, Nahiri
Blue: Jace, Tamiyo
Black: Lili, Sorin
Red: Nahiri
Green: Arlinn

Now, between Jace and Tamiyo, Jace is the most-likely to go insane on this plane. (Hell, he busted out a scary laugh when he was bordering insanity during certain events in Agents of Artifice!) And, as the Izzet so graciously demonstrated, the color combination of Blue/Red seems to lead into it's own form of insanity, so it's possible that, out of all the colors above, Jace might wind up being a Blue/Red 'walker or a flipwalker that's Blue on the front and Red on the back.

I still fully expect this theory to be completely trounced, though.

I mean, we know there is a multicolor rare/mythic flip card, so I assumed everyone else was also just assuming it would be Arlinn.

Though, if it is, it would make her the 4th RG walker. (Sarkhan Vol, Domri Rade, Xenagos the Reveler)

Like, she'll be RG, but one side will be G and the other will be R.

It's been stated by Maro several times over the last few years that one of his biggest regrets with the first Innistrad block was the lack of legendary werewolves, so I think it's almost certain we're getting one.

What if Arlinn was one of those walkers that could be a commander, like Freyalisse and Daretti, wouldn't that be wild (it will NEVER happen, I'm sure).
