Questions about the RP subforum

cr47t

Question

I don't know where else to post this, but anyway, I am thinking about participating in an RP in the RP subforum but still have a few questions.

1. I don't know if I have the dedication to keep up with this if it goes for like, a year or so. I don't know how much my activity would be until I ended up stopping, if at all. In that case, how active should I be on the RP?

2. I don't know how I can really plan my character for the app. I havent really done this before on YCM, and I could use a few tips on this and on other aspects of participating in someone else's RP. I've already read each of the pinned threads in the OOC subsection; where else can I look for helpful advice? (Or if you want you can put it here)

3. Sometimes I see other users in an OOC thread posting links to their apps. Where do those apps get originally posted?

4. I don't think these are the only questions that are gonna pop up over this. That said, if I have other questions, whom can I look to on YCM for advice?

I would like some serious answers, please.

I have arrived to be your guide.

1. It depends on the RP but preferably for me I say once or twice a week at minimum. More or less depending how important the post is. (For instance if several are waiting on your character's reaction, taking too long is just rude).

2. What kind of advice do you need? Look at apps others have made that are accepted. Basically get a basic character idea down, finding a picture for or writing out an appearance can help the thoughts flow better. I tend to have an idea what kind of character I want. Basic traits, and abilities (which varies depending on the world its in) and then look at how they fit in with the world within the RP. Figure out a past through this, what their life was like. This can be done by a combination of using the personality to shape how they reacted to life events OR using the backstory to explain why they act a certain way.

tl;dr, work on it one piece at a time and the entire character will fall into place.

3. What Gigs said. People tend to post works in progresses, and when they finish, they link the post in a new post so they can alert people it's done. (And to make it easier to find)

4. Zai, me, Yui, Aix, Nai (Um, Aix and Nai are moderators, their current names are...actually I'm not sure but check the bottom right of the RP forum you can find the names there). Those are the safe bets for experience combined with friendliness and general knowledge, imo. And yes I'll be arrogant enough to say myself X3

This is coming from someone who hasn't done a serious RP here since 2011 (disregarding the little thing in Games b/c of its informality), but let's see.

1. As the above two mentioned, just be active at least a few times per week; however your schedule will permit you to do so. (We don't know how much of a course load you're carrying or if you have a job, how your hours are). But just make sure you keep up with the plot; otherwise, just find someone to take over your character if you're going to be unable to participate for a while or just hold back until you have time [assuming it's still accepting; a lot of RPs close/start after a certain number of people join)

2. Just make sure you read the plot and rules of the RP you plan to participate in. If you need to read the apps of some of the other members (or any sample apps that may have been provided), then do so. The host should've given you a form to fill out, detailing what you need to put there and so on. For the most part, provide the minimum that you need, but you're free to add additional details that will make your character(s) unique.

I would advise just sticking to one character at a time until you're sure you're ready for more.

3. Answered already.

4. Since this is an RP thing, ask Nai/Aix (their current names are Nanashi Nai and Senjougahara Hitagi; I don't know if/when they'll change again) or one of the RP regulars. You should be able to get help in RP if you need to.

Moved to Q&A though.
