I have experience. Not enough to alter complete scripts and events and stuff (hence no implementation of new things like fusion, etc.), but I have done several little rom hack projects.

 

As is, I think I'm gonna use Gold as the base game. Gen 3 might have more tools, but it also requires another 100+ pokemon to switch to yugioh monsters, a huge number of attacks to switch up, and abilities to contend with.

 

What do people think about Kuriboh/Kuribabylon being the "Ratata" of the game?

Gold sounds fine. And sure, could do.

Lugia can still be caught in Gold at a higher level later on. That's what I always thought was weirdly different about Gen II, but at least you don't have to worry about the version legends, really.

I just realized, if you do this, evolutions would be a lot harder to make. For example:  no Buster Blader support. So he'd be singular. Not much Dark Magician support. Starters would be MUCH harder to do. Blue-Eyes and Red-Eyes would be 2-stages and would be the FIRST stages, meaning they'd start of weak, which wouldn't fly. Need I go on?

In the first place, the most the guy can do in regards to 'mons and their lines is replace sprites and name(maybe stats), evolution's going to be hard either way.

 

Ideally, Blue Eyes would replace Lugia and Red Eyes would replace Ho-Oh. Considering that apparently Lugia still appears in Gold later on but at a higher level, that's perfect.

 

And if Mewtwo can be captured in Gold, might as well make it Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon even if there's not much of a relation between Lugia and Mewtwo.

 

Starters would be a pain but I'm sure someone can think of candidates.

I have a Google Doc with the Pokemon in Gold (if a 'mon is not on there, it isn't obtainable in just Gold).  If you have an idea of what to replace what feel free to put it in.  As of right now, there are plenty of open spots and things could be changed if you have an idea (ie. Kakuna >> Beedril is now only a 2 pokemon line).

 

I also would like input on the types and shortened names of said Yugimon as well.  Cards with short names like Kuriboh don't need to be changed, but the game has a 10 space max on names.

 

 

Update:

  • I changed the Main Character's overworld sprite to look more like Yugi.  Need to figure out why the color palette keeps switching back to red though...
  • Made a placeholder Kuriboh sprite to edit in.  I was successful, but now I need to find me a pokemon species name editing tool to start changing the names of the 'mon I'm to edit out.

I see a lot more two-stage evolutions than three-stage. This is why I think there should be post-GX support for GX and pre-GX archetypes (I.E., Red-Eyes Retro Dragon).

A couple of those cards (Armored Kappa, Baby Roc) were post-GX, so I kept that in mind.

In that case, how about this:

Red-Eyes Retro Dragon -> Red-Eyes Black Dragon -> Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon

Maiden with Eyes of Blue -> Blue-Eyes White Dragon -> Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon

True, but Chick can summon REBD and Darkness can be summoned by tributing REBD, that's why I like my line better.

It's ok.

 

I do have other 3-stage lines I just thought of;

I guess I can see that, but chick and darkness aren't too good in ygo, and retro and darkness metal look cooler imo. But watevz.

I think Chick works best as the first stage Red Eyes when converting it to Pokemon, just in the sense that basic forms are never really meant to be "good", and make most sense starting off smaller than the rest of the archetype (and generally cute to boot). I don't really know about the rest of the line, but I'm pretty sure when it comes to that. Then again, by all means, you don't have to follow Pokemon conventions, it would just be really cool to finally have a hack based on YGO.

Female: Magician's Valkyria -> Dark Magician Girl -> Dark Magician Girl the Dragon Knight

I guess that could work, though I'd have substituted Magician's Valkyria for the chibi DM/DMG that Jaden used in GX (Miracle Flipper, Card Ejector) that's just my opinion ofc. They'd still be a Nidoran-esque line but wouldn't have the same base form.

to be a parallel to Nidoran they need to have the same base form
