Alola forms will likely have completely separate movepools. Alola Ninetails has Snow Cloak. Don't see it getting Flash Fire as HA either. Snow Warning if anything, for symmetry.

sadness... either way, the aloha ninetails is definitely joining my team when i get to its' island.

just saying, aloha ninetails would do well to keep the flash fire ability. an ice/fairy with immunity/boosts via fire, and access to the normal ninetails movepool alongside the fairy/ice movepool would already be amazing. that does make me think though, would it be likely that we'll get a new eeveelution this gen? they're already breaking the rules of the game this far, and since other pokemon are now adapting to various climates, it wouldn't be unreasonable for eevee to have something new up it's sleeve this gen as well.

in addition, this basically means they're going to expand the movepools for all the related pokemon right? because i really want normal nintetails to inherit moonblast and ice beam for coverage.

For all intense and purposes just treat the new forms as totally new Pokemon. New stats, new abilities, new move pools.

We know we aren't getting a new Eevee since it showed up in a trailer as being caught and we saw that it had 8 evolution spaces. Though I agree for a creature all about adapting strange they wouldn't have it adapt to Aloha when other Pokemon did so to the point they are virtually new Pokemon.

hopefully they still breed with the regular nintetails, and add at least one or two crossover moves to the breeding pool.

Kind of-related news, as this "toy" works with the game.

Sun and Moon will have a Z-Ring peripheral released alongside the games in Japan, made by Takara Tomy. The device syncs up with the system (though only the NEW 3DS is shown in the promotional material), and flashes up, makes sounds and vibrates when you activate a Z-Move in-game.

For around £19, you get the starter kit: One (1) bracelet and a random Z-Crystal. You then can purchase expansion packs for ~£4.50 that contain 3 random crystals each. A special Bundle is also getting released for £33, which contains the ring and 6 crystals.

18 crystals to collect: One for each pokemon type. No news on any release outside Japan as of now.

TL;DR: Tie-in product gives us first look at the individual Z-Crystals.

Kinda doubt that they will actually release this in the US/elsewhere, least on time anyway. Would be neat to have on though, but not really sure on buying it for the purpose of this game. Hopefully they do get released outside, because importing will be a pain; that, and if it'll fit people's wrists (as in ours).

Mega ring is only about 6 inches in diameter (15 cm) last time I checked online; my wrist is slightly bigger than that (give/take a centimeter or two).

Hey, you know.... Since Vulpix, for whatever reason, couldn't adapt to the warm tropical climate and moved to an arctic area/become an Ice-Type....

I wonder if they are hinting at different Vulpix on different islands. I mean it would be really weird if Ice-Vuplix was the ONLY Vulpix in-game.

Mainly because I want to see an in-game double battle with 1 opposing trainer using Sandslash/Ninetails/Exeggutor, while the other opposing trainer uses the Alola forms of them.

While that would be super cool, I'm wondering about how in-depth they'll go with these.

I figure for the sake of time and ease of development, they wouldn't go too crazy adding multiple new forms per Pokémon, lest they only give those forms to a certain handful of mons. If they do, then awesome, but I have a feeling it'll be one new form per mon. For now at least.

To be honest, it would make even less sense for normal Vulpix to be in the game.

You know... If that dancing bird is any indication, we will likely have the original versions of Pokemon on 1 island, while different forms of them exist on other islands.

That being said, I am so hype for Tall Exeggutor.

There's already a few rumoured ones that might be true.

Yeah that Fire Marowak sounds like it'll be likely.

Though, consider that Vulpix likely won't get a new spot in the National Dex thanks to this. Meaning that it should be able to inherit the same moves and even possibly breed for ability between the two types of Vulpix. It's strange, obviously, because I'm not sure if form differentiations of Pokémon you can actually breed ever had different abilities for their base evos. (after checking, I'm pretty sure they haven't) But yeah, if Game Freak lets you breed your normal Vulpix's ability onto an Alolan Vulpix, and guaranteeing it using held items, that would be sweet.

Also I'm now realizing that Alolan Vulpix is x4 weak to Steel. Because of course it is. Ice Dual Types are always x4 weak to something...

I'd give a good guess on them settling on letting you breed separate forms, randomised/father/mother-dependent baby, ability corresponds to its form. I don't see them letting you give an Alolan Vulpix Flash Fire.

I think they've mentioned that if you want the original forms, you have to transfer from other games. Putting the original ones on different islands undermines the whole point of introducing the forms. Besides, they're called 'Alola forms', rather than referring to a specific island.

is that how cubone lost its' mother this time?

that's the reason i'm really hoping to have it inherit some fire moves at the very least, if not the flash fire ability. this is an opportunity for ninetails (of both forms) to inherit incredible coverage moves,

Yea... I'm overthinking it.

Still, I'd like to see a double battle with the original forms next to the Alola forms, if only for the sake of a cameo. Or whatever.

So it's like the Ratman (from Justice Friends) of Pokémon, in that fire killed its mom, and that's why it battles using fire now *cofcoflogiccofcof*

In other important news, at least Bulbapedia confirms there are other trial captains besides the 4 revealed yesterday, and that makes more relieved =)

So, I'm sure some of you have seen this floating around

JPJungleBoosterbox.jpg

That is from 1999.

Also

"Originally from the tropics, EXEGGUTOR's heads grow larger from exposure to strong sunlight. It is said that when the heads fall, they group to form an EXEGGCUTE."

The Exeggutor we've known for so long is actually the alternate form. This is the original.

The same is implied by the official info.

"The environment of the Alola region, where strong sunlight pours down all year round, brought about this change in Exeggutor’s form. The people of Alola boast that the Alolan Exeggutor is the true form of Exeggutor."

Ooo, a stone for each type.

JOTTIN' IT DOWN ON THE CHRISTMAS LIST!

Also, the Z-moves seem reminiscent to the super moves used in the ORAS Super Contests.

Now let's guess which crystals are which!

going from left to right,

chbnnam1sxythbalb8mn.png

Electric, Fire, Grass, Water. Fighting, Normal, Steel, Rock, Poison, Ghost, Dark, Bug, Flying, Dragon, Ice, Fairy, Psychic, Ground.

Steel took me a minute to figure out, in all honesty.

I was struggling with so many of those, but yea, that list looks perfect. Honestly, they all look really cool imo.

Just for the record, Oricario has different looks due to their diet of specialised flowers that grow exclusively on each island.

Yeah, so the question is: can you change its type by feeding it a flower? Or do you just have to track down the version on each island. The fact that it's move changes typing depending on its form would hint at the prior, but Rotom is a thing and it just straight up learns new moves so...
