Pokemon Sun & Moon

Tinkerer

Recommended Posts

I have a slowing. Use the kings rock for something else. It's from my alpha sapphire game.

Interested?

I have one already in AS, which I intend on moving over. But thanks for the offer though.

On the subject of Moon in the alternate world, clock is 3 hours behind my DS time (even though inversing Moon's offset should have it read as the time I have set). Right now, it's noon but Moon would say that it's 9 am. May need to jump through the portal again and see if that does anything (used to be 4 hours though).

[Trying to keep them on the same in-game time for things]

====

Still have a lot more stuff I need to move over from Gen 6 (and yeah, some stuff from current White 2 run).

So working on my Pokemon Bank living Dex. Got the first 110 from Kanto done, but for some reason, Bank doesn't register some Pokemon in the Dex as caught or even seen. It's missing some weird things like Marowak, Gengar, and Primape, even though I have them in the bank.

You have to physically turn the game you're sending too on, then at least get to the title screen for them to be fully registered. Also Bank has no internal PokeDex.

I can't be buggered to sign up, so I'll just wait. I mean, as stones go Mawilite and Beedrillite aren't exactly high priority.

In other news, I've been doing some more breeding, and have created a 5IV Adamant Golisopod (in a Beast Ball) called Brutus, and a 6IV Jolly Mimikyu (in a uxury Ball (lol)) named Dante. Brutus is specialized EV-wise into HP and Atk, and I plan to use an Assault Vest on him while just focusing on priority moves with First Impression, Sucker Punch, and Aqua Jet, as well as Rock Slide because wynaut?

Dante will likewise focus on HP and Atk, and will be using Substitute and Disguise to set up Swords Dance and then sweep with Shadow Sneak and Play Rough. I dunno what to give him yet as an item, since a Life Orb would conflict with Sub. Maybe Ghostium-Z or a Focus Sash.

I've also been EVing up my Ultra Beasts I intend to use, namely my 2 Buzzwoles (Cain & Abel), Nihilego (Envy), both Xurkitrees (My Boy & Guzma Jr), and finally Kartana (Kakurine). I gotta say that Moon really lucked out really, since it has a wild drop item Sun cannot get (Grip Claws from Sandshrew), and better UBs in Pheromosa and Celesteela. I dunno what I want from my Guzzlord (Fatass) yet.

I can't be bothered to sign up either, considering course work right now and I don't exactly participate in online competitions due to lack of perfect IV mons. (Showdown would be good at helping me craft stuff so I don't waste my time training stuff that won't work, but yeah...)

Only stones I really need at this point are:

  • Latiasite (because still pissed about Soul Dew getting nerfed, although not as much now)
    • Don't need her brother's one because I never use it and Life Orb variant is better.
  • Altarianite, if/when I port over Risanai the Altaria from AS.
  • Blazikenite
  • Lopunnite
  • Tyranitarite

Other Megas, I either don't care about right now, or are low priority because I have things I need to do with them in Gen 6 before moving over.

===

Still level training my 3 IV Magic Bounce Espeon (yeah, HP and Sp.Defense aren't perfect, but SpAtk, Defense and Speed are, which is great for me) among other things. That, and Midday Lycanroc that I have in a Beast Ball [no egg moves though, so no Fire Fang to deal with Steels/Grass; forced to use Brick Break]. Other stuff is still going, but just for level up purposes to 100.

Can't say I'm thrilled with lack of good training areas in the postgame though, but don't we already know that?

I suppose having multiple Battle Tables/Rare Kitchens help though if I really can't be bothered to cream the E4 repeatedly.

For the competition, I might sign up, and then just not do any battles, or do one and then stop. I don't have a team really ready, nor do I really care. I just want the stones earlier than the mass release (although I'm SO relieved that everyone will get them, even if it's a gap of a few months).

The 4000 FC bumped my Plaza from like...Level 87 to Level 96 or something before getting more FC stopped "immediately Leveling up". For festival shops, I have the Rare Kitchen 5, a Lottery Shop 4 (today, I got the Number 1 prize, Gold Bottle Cap, so whee!), and 5 different fortune tellers. Mostly because I do a lot of WT my shiny breed rejects, and more recently realized just how much FC that's worth when a fortune teller is buffing WT or Plaza.

I don't have a team ready either, so I might just sign up with my story team and do like one battle or something.

Huh, I've finally found my first shiny in Sun: A Pelipper I had almost Volt Switched while grinding my UBs to 100.

Speaking of grinding, I have found that the Poni Gauntlet is probably a better place to grind than the Battle Cafe for exp, but the Battle Cafe is better for money grinding if you encounter the old people.

I think I might want to use Poni Gauntlet more often because it's unlimited as opposed to the Buffet expiring after 10 turns (and hell forbid we leave after 9 times to prevent it from happening). Buffet really shouldn't have been once per day and should've been like the Cafes in Kalos. It's still on the slow end though (least for me because none of the 'mons in here, bar the UBs go higher than level 59, and the trainers are low level after a while).

Festival Plaza's at level 57 now, which is nice. (Went up from I think 34 or something, so the boost helps). Now to see how far my Moon one goes.

As a sidenote, someone Wonder Traded a Giratina last night (likely hacked since it had 31 IVs in everything); Calm nature, level 100 and looks like one of those SleepTalk sets. Didn't check the EVs, but looks like it is already trained up.

The Gauntlet is also better because there's very little downtime between each battle. You end one, you immediately run to begin the next one. Still, at least you can fight the Game Director once a day, though his pokemon aren't exactly exp cash cows.

EDIT: And thus, my first Lv100 mon is my Xurkitree My Boy. I've Hyped Trained his HP and Speed, so now he's golden IV-wise.

My Festival got to Level 102, thanks to my Fortune Teller buffs for the day giving me 16 FC per Wonder Trade, and I did nearly 2-3 boxes worth. Among the junk, I got a shiny 6 IV Modest Ditto that is, ironically, better than my shiny 6IV Modest Japanese Ditto.

How? Because this Ditto is Italian. Meaning I can breed it with Japanese Pokemon (which are more common than Italian) and still have Masuda Method apply.

Huh, never knew Fortune Telling Tents were actually useful for something. They felt like a gag facility to me.

Moonwhile, I've gotten my other Xurkitree (Guzma Jr), my Kartana, one of my Buzzwoles (Cain), and Nihilego to 100. Cain's brother Abel still has 4 levels to go though.

It took a while for me to realize it. I mean, it was obvious that getting good luck for lottery or haunted houses meant better odds for good items, but the potential good luck for GTS, Battle Spot, Wonder Trade, etc seemed confusing. Eventually, I realized that after getting a fortune for good luck in Plaza or missions, my FC payout would improve when doing a mission or something.

And then I looked it up and found out that you get 2x, 3x, or 4x payouts to the FC earned (based on the fortune), and that a buff to Plaza stacks with the buffs to the other things.

So for the WT, if you're inside the castle, there's a single person off to the side (a visitor) that gives you FC if you last WT, GTS, presumably Battle Spot, or Link Traded with them. So I stand next to that person, do a Wonder Trade, then talk to the (new) visitor in-between trades.

Normally, you only get 2 FC per trade. But with a Plaza or Wonder Trade buff, you can get 4, 6, or 8 per trade. But Plaza buff stacks with WT buff, so you could get 8 with a mere 2x buff to both, and 16 with a x4/x2 buff combination. I guess 32 would be the max PER TRADE if you got really lucky and got a 4x/4x buff combination.

Plus, I kind of like the phrases you can unlock from Fortune Tellers.

I basically just use it to try and get Bottle Caps.

Also, I just noticed something. Not only are your guests obnoxious little shits who eat up your time when you get a question wrong (or hell, even when you get a question RIGHT) in (Inverse) Type Match-up Missions, but they're also GREEDY bastards. How? Well simple, if you have a specific facility (like Treasure Hunt), these self-entitled shits charge DOUBLE for recommendations of the same type. What would be a 50 FC facility is now 100, and so on.

I don't think it's specifically "same type" as in, "Treasure Hunt" vs "Treasure Hunt". I think the double charge is for LITERALLY duplicate facilities.

If you have a 2 star Treasure Hunt, it will cost double to get recommended for another 2 star Treasure Hunt, but a 3 star Treasure Hunt will cost the normal amount for a 3 star facility (which is 400), and a 2 star Big Dreams (another type of lottery shop) would cost the normal amount as well.

Or for me, Rare Kitchen 5 star. 1500 normal cost. But since I have one already, accepting a recommendation for another Rare Kitchen 5 costs 3000.

The character arcs for him and his sister were just so good. I know I've said it before, but Sun/Moon easily have the best main game of any of the Pokemon games.

Anyway, if you did 5 GTS trades you can now pick up your Friend Ball. Also, just hit me that you trading away Pokemon gets you an extra Friend Ball. lol

I would've loved to have gotten one, if I had more time and people didn't screw over my evolution attempts over GTS with self. Ah well, the 4000 FC is more important.

But yeah, Sun/Moon have a nice main game, but the training aspect needs a ton of work (well, at least in the postgame anyway). As mentioned before, lack of places to continually grind (outside of Battle Tree / Gauntlet and the Elite 4, Buffet is somewhat garbage except for money and Morimoto is only once per day); none of them go higher than mid-60s.

I still think the Elite 4 should've been at least in the 70s for rematches (and full team).

I think they were trying to hold back the competitive side. I mean, you need to be lv 100 to by Hyper Trained, and it's a long grind to even GET to 100 to do so. Hordes are gone and replaced with an inferior clone in SOS. Super Training is gonezo, and instead replaced by the far inferior Pelago version that grinds 4 EVs per 30 (15 w/ beans) minutes. Mega Stones have to be bought with BP (from facilities that are FAR more brutal than the Maison), and you only get 1 Lucky Egg unless you get them from other SuMo versions. O-Powers were erased, and we went back to BW's rubber band style of Exp gain.

It's as if Gamefreak looked at XY and said "We made that post-game and ability to build competitive teams WAY too easy, so let's make it far harder in SuMo".

Yea this is my biggest issue with the game. All the main game jumps came at the cost of the competitive side. Though in fairness Super Training isn't that good imo (just EV training with it is super slow) and the game would not have been able to handle hordes by nature of the game itself. Festival Plaza also tried to help with the leveling and EV training, but it is super slow to get the good Bouncy Houses and Food Stalls and they also have version exclusive issues. This wouldn't be so bad if you could just breed and train the Pokemon in Gen 6, but you need Gen 7 Pokemon for official events.

If you want Mega Stones you'll use it Shradow.

Also, now that my UBs are kitted out, I'm testing them in the Battle Tree. Nihilego is doing very we as a suicide lead, and almost always manages to set up both Stealth Rocks and 1 layer of Toxic Spikes before dying (except in my current battle where this dickbag Leafeon keeps spamming Yawn). My SubPunch Buzzwole is also doing well, especially once the ball gets rolling on Beast Boost.

Guess I'm the only one actually going to play in the tournament? I've been breaking on the game for a little bit, but I just remembered that there's a VGC tournament for the Mega Stones, and since I've been EV Training a whole ton of pokemon, I might as well give it a shot. I never done this stuff before, but at least I'm not gonna waste my efforts here.

I think the registration deadline probably ends tomorrow.
