Pokemon Sun & Moon

It was weirdly satisfying having my Umbreon use Black Hole Eclipse on a Gengar (considering it's similar to Gengar's burst in Pokken Tournament).

That's actually clever on multiple fronts.

It prevents the Machamp + Fissure thing gaining No Guard.

And it rewards players who actually bought and played the VC releases (I did not, because I really can't imagine myself enjoying ludicrously outdated mechanics and graphics, even for nostalgia value)

Plus, apparently all Gen I transfers will have a minimum of 3 perfect IVs.

Yeah, it is rather clever

Though I'm glad I bought the VC games because with the "all pokemon having HA" thing, I can finally get the legendary birds with HAs as I was geographically unable to get them last year.

On another note, The Pokémon Company has just announced that almost 6,000 people, specifically 5,954, have been banned from online activity for having altered save data. This ban prevents them from using Game Sync, entering in Rating Battles and Battle Competitions, and participating in Global Missions

What exactly is "altered save data"? Like...I don't even know what that would mean in this context.

Don't worry, we can all relate to the RNG being shitty at times, despite the supposed low chance of said RNG doing that repeatedly (i.e. that small 1/256 chance that a 100% accuracy move fails). Hell, some jackass today during Royale got his Quick Claw activated three times in a row [1/10]^3. That's like, what, lower than the shiny encounter rate after chaining like mad in SOS or having the Charm.

Or yeah, a bunch of other things related to the AI (someone explain how the hell some random kid can Mega Evolve, use Z-moves or conveniently have access to Alolan HAs that even we don't have on our own [*cough Intimidate Incineroar, Long Reach Decidueye*]). Yeah, I'm referring to the AI opponent as kids [blame Night for this], but in actuality, a lot of them are legitimately kids or those who look younger than me.

That's faulty statistics logic. While yes, the odds of getting 3 Quick Claw activations in a row is 1 in 1000, each individual action is 1/10, so assuming it won't happen because "the odds are astronomical" is simply wrong. Reminds me of the Zexal episode(s) where Astral kept commenting on the "odds" of Charlie (No.7's user) rolling a 6, based on how all his previous rolls had been 6 made the result improbable.

For that matter, the RNG rolling ANY specific number combination is equally rare. With a 10 sided dice, it's ALSO only a 1/1000 chance that you'll roll a 1, 3, and 7, in that order.

For the second part, with the AI being weirdly fortunate...just because YOU don't have it doesn't mean someone else doesn't. In-game trainers could also gripe about how you, a complete newcomer to the region, got access to Z-Moves when very few other trainers do. As for the HA mons...they got uber lucky and were given a HA starter, and you just didn't have that opportunity?

Then again, they could also complain about why I get to use the Tapus [which are their guardians, even though I could say that Tapu Koko's the one who took interest in me when I first came here], the Ultra Beasts and otherwise legendaries from previous generations (least with Bank working), so yeah. Well, that in mind, it's not like the guy who got triple Quick Claw actually aimed at me specifically (but on weakened targets that I was going after). Or those all happened when I was using Celesteela (which is slow) as opposed to one of my faster 'mons; even if the guy didn't get QC triggered, I'd still lose in speed.

As for the saved data, probably people who cloned their Pokemon with whatever methods shown on Youtube (or PokeSav) or something to tamper with the in-game restrictions (i.e. remove the ban on box legendaries for Tree/Royale) or maybe tampering with their battle records from tournaments. I really don't know either.

You mean like the same people who had the issues when saving in Pokémon Centres?

If I could get internet access on DS at college, then I'd probably consider it (and if I didn't have to study on break). But right now, not available (and you're not online at the time of writing).

Still need to try getting Bottle Caps though, because a lot of my import 'mons will be needing buffs in their stats. (Either I increase the level of Treasure Hunt in Plaza, get lucky with Isle Aphun or fishing or just beat the crap out of Battle Tree once I reach Super Battles)

Okay so im trying to find a careful celesteela. Already got a modest nature one. Just need the careful nature for defensive set. Or is there a second good nature for defensive sets?

Careful nature's used if you're relying on all Physical attacks to do damage with Celesteela. Most often, people will have Flamethrower or some other special move to deal with Steels and stuff, so Sassy nature is used. Smogon recommends a Sassy nature for defensive sets (usual stuff), and yeah, it does work (well, I have a Relaxed one from GTS, but you can toy around with that).

So yeah...

  • Sassy is the most common since a lot of these will probably carry Flamethrower (dk about Giga Drain) as a coverage move against other Steels. Also because base 61 speed isn't going anywhere most of the time.
  • Careful is an option for a full physical attack version (well, EQ/Heavy Slam/Leech Seed/Protect)
  • Relaxed is an option if you need to be more physically defensive, though most of Celesteela's weaknesses do fall on the special side. I've seen some sets that use this.

For some reason, I'm tempted to capture the Ultra Beasts in anything that isn't a Beast Ball.

I've already snagged Nihilego in a Pokeball (took 7 of 'em), so I might as well try and get the rest in non-Beast Balls.

I got xircuitree in a ultra ball..... It was hard though.... Attempting guzzlord had failed.

Yeah, trying to catch Guzzlord in a Pokeball is gonna be a pain. I might not bother, and just use Beast Balls on that.

Though I have caught legendaries in Pokeballs.

Or use the master ball... And so have I, caught a Entei with pokeball back during the gen 4 days in heart gold.

Say would you like to battle? Im bored and i have all my work from my last game (yes, i just started a new game), and don't worry, my pokemon will obey me on online features only.

Btw has anyone noticed that if they (for example) have got a traded level 100 arceus or whatever, the chance that they obey rises more as you get more stamps/badges (depends on the game)?

If it wasn't so late over here, I would

Also, I would use the Master Ball on Guzzlord, but I feel like it would be a bit of a waste. (then again, it does have a catch rate of 15)

the masterball never fails on ultra beasts too.

Did you see my 2nd question:

Any thoughts?

So, serebii has said that Mawile and Beedrill will be getting their Mega Stones as an entry gift for an Online Competition in late February. The other missing stones are likely to follow. Good that we'll finally be getting these Pokemon out of limbo, annoying that I'll need to register for the online competitions from now on since missing out on the stones is really bad.

I'm disappointed, but not surprised.

Yeah, this is a pretty crappy way to get those stones distributed to us to be honest; especially if said tournaments fall during exam periods (which they will).

At the very least, I saved up enough BP [well, more than enough] from Gen 6 banking to get myself a Lucarionite. (Haven't bought anything else though).

A bit disappointed in Mega Evolution for S/M, but that's probably me expecting a cutscene when we're activating it (like Z-moves). Otherwise, it's fine.

So, aside from that battle comp stuff, I'm breezing through my second run of Sun. I've just made it to the 3rd island with my new team of:

Baal the Brave Incineroar (lv34)

Aria the Modest Primarina (lv34)

Valor the Adamant Decidueye (lv34)

Tidus the Naive Raichu (lv34)

Big Mac the Brave Mudsdale (lv34)

Garrus the Jolly Shelgon (lv33)

I just did that event with Lana, and the 3 starters all reached level 34  during that match, so they all evolved then and there. (For note: I used a Synchronizer from my Kirlia collection to get Garrus to be Jolly, and I bred a Popplio and Rowlett in my previous run to then breed again in this run to get a non-traded Rowlett and Popplio. I also bred a bunch of times so I can instantly get the IV Judge feature once I reach it).

Also, I'm amazed that I missed several events in Sun, like that Tauros in the Paniola Ranch that you get a Scope Lens for beating, or the Muscle Band for beating Lana.

Y'know, this is something that's bothered me a lot since Gen 4: What does Gamefreak have against rock-type moves? I mean, if you look at Serebii, you'll find the rock movepool to be about as shallow as the dragon movepool (rock has 17 moves (not including the Z-Move), and dragon has 16). And something else you'll notice is the accuracy. For a reason I can't begin to fathom, only 4 offensive rock moves out of 17 have 100 accuracy, with the rest having an evil chance to miss (looking at you Stone Edge). Like, I seriously don't get it. Rock Tomb is basically the rock version of Bulldoze (they both have a 100% chance to lower speed), and yet, Bulldoze not only has 100 accuracy, but in doubles it hits both opponents, while Rock Tomb can only target one. I honestly don't understand why Rock Tomb should have 95 accuracy, or why a lot of those moves can miss. Is it flavour or something? Cause, that's a freaking dumb excuse when you ad lib the use of flavour in lieu of PRACTICALITY. Worse still, 2 of the 17 are signature moves to boot, and Rock Wrecker can only be used by a total of 3 mons, so the pool at large for most pokemon is a total of 14 rock moves. I seriously DO NOT get why this typing is being handled so poorly, I really don't. I mean, is it just because ground is better or something?

Gamefreak's probably biased, but yeah, Rock really needs more moves that have good accuracy and higher power; definitely on the accuracy [which they could've fixed this generation, but chose not to and instead nerfed other things that didn't deserve it]. Rock Throw sucks already; did they really have to make it miss 10% of the time?

Or really, more attacks in general for them. As much as I like Stone Edge and Rock Slide for reliable STABs, they have a tendency to miss at the wrong times.
