Let's see:

Kanto

Grass - Kind of neutral on Bulbasaur and its evo line, although it still has the honor of being the only dual-typed starter throughout its lifespan, so that's something.

Fire - Well, Charizard is pretty awesome even if he's been getting overrated lately. (Only starter to get 2 Mega Evolutions instead of 1)

Water - I don't know about this one, so neutral.

Johto

Grass - Iffy on this one; not saying it's bad but yeah, I have neutrality on this.

Fire - Typhlosion is kind of like Charizard, but without the 4x to Stealth Rock (but is vulnerable to EQ).

Water - Initially I didn't really have too many feelings for it, but now this guy is amazing as hell. (I think a certain YCM member's influence finally motivated me to breed an HA one)

Hoenn

Grass - Sceptile was amazing when he came out, and still is.

Fire - To be honest, I chose Blaziken at the start of my OR/AS run [and for the record, used the event one from XY during that run]. So yeah, have to say that it's gotten a lot of use out of me lately.

Water - I like the other two better, but Swampert is still cool. Also Mega looks like he's going to wreck you badly.

Sinnoh

Grass - Turtwig is cute, Grotle is iffy and Torterra looks nice. Though, I tend not to use slower Pokes (especially if they have gaping 4x weaknesses) and base 56 with Torterra isn't helping for usage (it's a tortoise, so what do you expect?)

Fire - Well, this one followed in Blaziken's footsteps of being a Fire/Fighting type but flaming monkey is cool. Come to think of it, I haven't touched the one BehindTheMask gave me for quite a while now. (Should still be on my X cartridge)

Water - Really only cared for Piplup/Empoleon; Prinplup is meh.

Unova/Isshu

Grass - I don't know; design is really neat, but stat-wise, not really great outside of speed and decent defenses. At least it got Contrary, but not until later.

Fire - I suppose this line is okay, I suppose. Not really fond of it copying the Fire/Fighting trend though.

Water - I have to admit that Oshawott has been my starter in more than half of my 8 W2 runs since the end of 2013 (yeah, I bought the game late), so yeah this is the one I'm more attached to. Plus, its design is pretty cool.

Kalos

Grass - Chespin/Harimaron is cute and Chesnaught looks cool. Not sure on Quilladin though.

Fire - At least it broke the Fire/Fighting trend (and shares a typing with Victini), so there's that. Delphox is my starter in XY (and it's male), so I use this one more often. I also don't care about the Braixen Amie videos on Youtube (I didn't even try it).

Water - Ninja frogs are cool, and Greninja is no exception. Middle evo is kinda meh though.

----

I don't know; it's a tie between 3 and 6, but 2 comes very close.

Kanto only has Charizard, Sinnoh basically has Infernape and Isshu/Unova has Samurott.

Since it got Contrary Serp has found its way into OU. Yea, its really good.

I honestly wish I saw what you all seem to see in the Gen 2 starters. It easily has the two weakest for me, but it looks like I'm the odd one here.

I'll fight anyone to the death who says 5 or 6

I was a really big fan of  Chimchar in gen 4, or Charmander back in the old days :/

ROUND 1

Honestly I was torn between 1, 4, and 6 for various reasons.

My #1 of the 20 Starters is Eevee (It was the RIval's Starter in Yellow so I'm counting it, also Pikachu, fight me.)

6 has the most competitively viable Starter that isn't OP thanks to Protean Greninja, and it has the only Stage 2 I like better than the Final Form of its line, Braixen,

1 also has Charizard, The MFD of the OG

But 4 has Empoleon, which put it on the list for reasons only Saitama knows.

Seriously, why on Gen 2. WHY

I have no idea. Both in terms of design and usability I'd put Meganium and Typhlosion at the bottom of their type. Even Feraligatr just keeps pace with the other water starters in terms of usability (all but Samurott are great pokemon) and in terms of design he is middle of the road imo. Don't get me wrong, every group is going to have its fans, but I wouldn't have expected YCM to have so many Gen 2 fans since the are widely said to be the worse. I'm also pretty surprise Gen 1 hasn't gotten more love. I'm not a huge fan of them as a group, but I figured since they are the first batch they would have been getting more love.

I voted Gens 1 and 3, love the lines for all 6 of them. I just feel like Kanto and Hoenn's starters compliment each other really well. And I'm heavily biased since Sapphire and Leaf Green were the 2 games I poured the most hours in.

If I had to make a 3rd pick, it'd be down between Gen 2 and 6. Feraligatr and Greninja are awesome, Typhlosion and Chesnaught are alright, and Meganium and Delphox are eh.

I'm not a huge fan of Sinnoh and Unova's starters.

I'm not sure why people think 2 had bad designs, those designs are overall really solid. They're not overly crazy, but they have things interesting about them, and this stays true through all stages of evolution.

Personally, I think Typhlosion and Meganium are the weakest of their respective types. Like, I just don't find them interesting. Don't get me wrong, Emboar isn't THAT much better then Ty, but all the other Grass starters are way cooler than Meganium. Feraligatr has the coolest design from Gen 2, but I think water starters are all pretty close side from Gren.

gen 4 has Son Goku...

sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Also Penguin that I always name Mumble, and Atlas Tortoise.  Love them all

So I'm not the only person to name my Infernape Goku. Emboar is his rival since both are drawn from Journey to the West.
