Nicο
Didn't want to start the initiative since I only have 1 version and might be locked out of participating, but here we go. If you're interested in a tournament it would be cool if you voted. Guess I'll give it a couple days or more to be on the safe side.
Toffee.
At the time of this post, 3DS has 4 and WiiU is at 2.I expect WiiU's number to rapidly escalate.
Nicο
I took a look at the sales and it's only obvious that the 3DS one is drastically better in that regard, but there could be a different kind of audience here. Don't really know. Personally, I tried the demo on 3DS, and it didn't feel right to me. I felt more at home with a wii remote, even the one time I used it in Smash 4. I know, I know, I suck. TF2_The_Scout
Haven't played Smash 4, though I heard that Metal Sonic is in it. Is that true?
Nicο
Haven't played Smash 4, though I heard that Metal Sonic is in it. Is that true?It is if you choose Sanic and use the Metal Box. So no, no it is not.

~British Soul~
I only own the 3DS version. As much as I wanted the Wii U version as well, I couldn't afford it at the time.
Nicο
So yeah. to make it so more people can play and so it's far more likely a tournament can even happen, I would say 3DS it is. Not against making a tourney thread either, if you think the one to randomize the matches shouldn't be a player. Does anyone think so? Reason being, I don't think we can get enough people to play the entire tourney at once, at any given time (and would rather it be either single elimination or 2/3 only, probably), so the built in mode is kind of trash. It doesn't even look like you can make a more private one in the regular format.
LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
Though it seems there's enough people to do a Wii U tournament as well. You only really need 8 for a good tournament.
Nicο
I suppose both could be tried, yeah. But now I'm shutting down and snoozing up. I hope
Flame Dragon
If your going to do a tournament 3DS is the best option. Of the Wii U owners it looks like 6 (might have missed a name) own both meaning that will maximize the number of possible people. I don't think adding the Wii U would be that much work though so if your willing I'd recommend having two running at the same time. As for if you can compete, no reason not to. When I've held tournaments I normally compete unless I'd make it an odd number. As for logistics use a bracket maker and give people a week to play against there opponent. This way they have more flexibility for when they can play while still keeping the event moving at a reasonable pace. If you need any other advice let me know. I'll try help as able. Progenitor
http://challonge.com/ You can easily use this for making the tourney. As for format, why not just let the matches decide? if both of them have a 3DS, that's fine, but if one has both formats, all he has to do is use the same as his opponent. The only issue arises from the rare case in which one participant only has 1 format, while the other has the other format. In which case it may be possible to simply shuffle the seeds randomly in that round in order to get everything working again.
Shradow
I'd certainly appreciate it if we did a Wii U tournament as well, being one of the people who only has that version. XD

Was also thinking something like that makes the most sense. You can easily use this for making the tourney.
