Yes, I know it's basically a knockoff of the GTA series, BUT I have more fun playing Saints Row the Third than I do GTA V, I will be getting Saints Row IV hopefully pretty soon. But this thread is to talk about the Saints Row series.

For those who don't know what Saints Row is

You follow this, at the time of the first game, gang by the name of the Third Street Saints. You take control of a character who the Saints Row wiki calls The Protagonist, you don't get to name him/her but you can choose how they look. Throughout the whole series, you meet new allies and enemies; some who bleed over into the next game (looking at you Cyrus Temple). You get over the top missions, weapons and vehicles throughout all 5 games; including a weapon simply called 'Merica in Saints Row IV. Your character even becomes POTUS in Saints Row IV, how cool is that?!?

Saints Row 3 was the best IMO, it finally set itself apart from GTA by sheer goofiness. Saints Row 4 was miserable, it was quite literally Saints Row 3.5

No idea how they can move the plot from where they are now though. Reboots are rumoured.

I've yet to touch Saints Row 1, done a little bit of 2 and honestly no intention to continue because of how heavily I was flashing back to GTA.

3 will hold a special place in my heart because it managed to set itself appart from the GTA franchise and was over all just a fun ride.

4 is..... weird. I honestly kinda like it even more then 3 because of all the shenanigans you can create with the super powers, but at the same time I can tell that this started out as a DLC to 3 because of how much work is skipped by reusing the Steelport setting from 3 with just slight modification and just over all how, limited, it feels. And I dont like that.

I got honestly dissapointed in Gat outof Hell. It feels like 4, but they just slapped another skin on it and sliced away some of the real content like customising appearances and missions in favour of having you focus on the side missions, most of whom you cannot tell me arent reused almost cut and dry except with a "hell" skin. And can we please get away from Steelport already D: Gat outof Hell atleast did a decent overhaul to it so I cant accuse the devs for skipping work, but holy hell does it feel lazy that we're still in Steelport 3 games later (tough granted here they atleast poke fun at that fact).

I almost dont even wanna consider it worthy of being a stand-alone title because of how reliant it is on the side missions.

so Gat out of Hell was a disappointment that should've just been DLC instead of a standalone game?

Honestly, I think so.

It's barely enough to make me consider it a standalone title, and most of it is just the quantity of side missions, but quantifying meaningless work just to pad out the running time, imho, should be anything but justification to make it a standalone title, and the more I think about it some of the side content even feels outof place in a "Hell" setting, since they pretty much just lifted the "clusters" cut and dry from Saints Row 4 (except they call it Soul Clusters instead of Data Clusters, with a slightly different skin), nor do they really do anything with the Hell setting (infact they do even less with it by grounding it on the at this point tried and true Steelport).

Only thing they really do is use it to bring back a few people who died earlier in the series and people like Vlad the Impailer, Shakespeare and Blackbeard, all of whom have pretty terrible presence throught the entire game for being based on real and pretty famous people.

I've frequently seen jokes like Gat outof Hell was their one shot at letting you, the player, kill people like Hitler, but instead the only ones they bring in are Vlad, Blackbeard and Shakespeare, all of whom could've been replaced by litterally anyone else for all the presence and activity they get (Hell, they even have the same VA for both Shakespeare and Vlad, which makes it even harder to get a sense of identity on the two of them)

To put things in perspective, I currently have 13 hours logged on Gat outof Hell, and that's with having 100% completion in my first runthrough AND having started a second, whereas I'm 74 hours in Saints Row 4 and 32 hours in 3, and only having begun a second playthrough of the former with quite alot of screwing around in it (So for simplicity you could cut that down to 32 hours aswell)
