Once per turn: You can negate the activation of a card's effect that targets a face-up "B.E.S." or "Big Core" monster you control. During either player's turn, you can target 1 "B.E.S." monster you control: Place 1 counter on that card. You can only activate this effect of "B.E.S. Core Defense" once per turn.

I'll admit: I do dislike fan support of existing cards very much so. I only appreciate seeing them when the cards themselves properly support the archetype in and remain in-flavor with the themes and playstyle/functions of the archetype in question. In the case of B.E.S., I like to think I'm very accurate, but I'm sure it's not perfect. Also, gonna be perfectly shameless in how probably super busted I made these cards. I HAVE NO SHAME!!! Heaven's Gate might get a total reworking to just be a regular Level 8 monster. Who knows.

Well the way I see it, the pends knock out the use for boss rush entirely, since heavy 2 makes normal summons costless, and therefore free counters, and trinity makes swarming a snap. Big 4 is an OTK waiting to happen, since itself+ limiter removal = 10800 damage with one card. True, it has to have counters, but that's not hard thanks to heavy 2. Heaven's Gate is actually the tamest monster here. Yes it has 3k, yes it can attack everything, but it's vulnerable to ND removal like castel, ignister, etc, and it prevents your other's from attacking, which is usually a pretty hefty restriction.

Assault is a nice searcher for your pends and whatever else you want, and it makes the ships even bigger. Slightly dangerous since you're asking for an OTK that way, which with a Deck whose main card is (was, imho) Boss Rush. Breach is cute in that it's destruction for anything and burn, but there's still ways around it, whose names are TT and MST, and ND removal. Defense, though, Wowza. This thing is a good. It replenishes counters and stops your ships from getting ND removed. But again, this thing is begging to be MST'd/ TT'd/ other s/t removal.

Overall, I think this is some pretty solid support, but it kinda makes it a whole different deck that focuses on either the OTK or the Long Game™, instead of the all-or-nothing the old deck had. True, it can mesh, but I don't see a need for it.

I like it, and the flavor is there, but these really change the whole dynamic of the deck.

Changes:

  • Trinity Core's pendulum effect was changed to a stat-boost effect and it only searches spells/traps
  • Big Core Mk. IV was made into a pendulum monster. Pendulum effect is a stat boost and a searcher for Boss Rush.
  • Big Core Mk. IV's personal stat boost's cost was boosted to 4 counters, lasts until the end of the turn, and it only doubles original ATK.
  • Heaven's Gate was made into a pendulum monster. Pendulum effect is a draw effect and a counter-placement effect like Heavy Core.
  • Core Assault only searches monsters now

As for the review, I'm going to ignore Limiter Removal in this regard: It's a limited card, and the likelyhood of that scenario arising with Trinity Core is very, very unlikely. It's non-searchable and not a consistent OTK; therefore it's not really worth bringing up. Trinity's stat boost effect was already balanced more appropriately. Swarmability is more in-check now; but more importantly it's a little silly to assume that costless NS'ing in this archetype would remove the use of Boss Rush; I actually built a lot of these cards and effects to work with Boss Rush and make that a much more desirable card to use. That's why I made pendulums.

Having played B.E.S. a fair amount, I can safely say that Boss Rush was not the main card before Pendulums, and it actually made the deck really bad. By making these pendulums specifically and structuring the deck to make the Boss Rush setup more consistent and easy to establish, it would hopefully make the card worth running.

Core Mk4's searching effect is arguably better then Trinity's.

4 only searches Boss Rush, but given the fact that these cards in general have a lot of things relating to replacing the Counters and/or benefiting from them being destroyed, so searching Boss Rush right away is far more vital to these.

You could be cool and let Trinity search for BES stuff once-per-turn if a BES you control is destroyed. Would synergize better with Boss Rush/etc, give you Defense/Breach/Assault faster, and in turn, fuel these better.

I mean, as it is, all the support cards are competing with eachother because they are all Continuous/you only have 5 Spell/Trap zones/you can't stack as many as you would like.

So really, you could get away with remaking Trinity's searching effect.

Wouldn't really break these or anything. It would just reward you for playing along with an intended gimmick, rather then acting as wonky MST/Wavering/etc bait.
