2 Level 4 DARK monsters
When your opponent Special Summons a monster(s) (except during the Damage Step): You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; change that Special Summoned monster(s) to face-down Defense Position.

Turns out that TCG doesn't have a low supply of defensive XYZ.

This was released awhile back in HA07 along with the rest of the Evilswarm archetype, which made people scratch their heads as why would you ever summon this over Ophion especially with Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy right around the corner. Not only that but it wasn't exactly an environment where we could drop Rank 4s for free (the only deck that I recall being able to summon multiple Xyz per turn was Geargia).

SO:

Joker + Vector Pendulum, which dictates that you must draw at least Draco Face-Off to drop this.

-or-

Helprincess + Joker if you happen to draw Dracoslayer + Sorcerer

The main selling points:

It's not OPT.
  • This means you can answer Draco + Plush by BoM their Juggler so they cannot Xyz with their normal summon (unfortunately it will be set so you cannot shuffle it back with Castel), you can also BoM their Hat tricker when they aim to Xyz with their NS Joker which takes up space when they have to pend summon (if they have another self summon Level 4 you can use nightmare on that, which is unlikely, and they are forced to PS for 2, one of them has to be Sorcerer and the 5th monster is going to be a trade-off whether Plushfire or Luster Pendulum)
  • On top of dealing with Castel/Dire Wolf or any initial rank 4 the mirror does without Pendulum Summoning you can hit Luster Pendulum summoned OUTTA NOWHERE by face-off. This completely subverts Face-Off as they cannot make 2 ignisters per turn and win if allowed to Pendulum Summon since Luster will never hit the Extra Deck through Synchro Material for the 1st. (iirc Dinoster can still be summoned but the archetype is designed in such a way that you get the most value out of summoning Luster first BESIDES you can just use nightmare on the following PS)
  • Yeah it hits Pendulum Summons woot

Basically pair it with Rafflesia or Pleiades or if the combo gods favor you Infinity, what could possibly go wrong?

Mirror Conductor, actually.

This is what sucks about investing in Infinity or Rafflesia as Mirror Conductor can create openings in your lock, whether it is to simply to switch the stats and run over to scare out the Rafflesia (treacherous roffflllll), or forcing the Infinity to negate (when placing it in the Pzone resulting in basically a fair one for one trade) since it literally has 1600 DEF and your opponent barely has to commit, this also forces out early Pleiades bounces you get the picture.

Add to the fact that Draco Plush can access Mirror Conductor and that it's effect is Speed Spell 2 (so using Nightmare is ineffective) its not the be all end all to the PePe mirror (however I would like to point out anytime they are using Draco Plush for a non Juggler summon is still a suboptimal play). A really powerful card tho.

An alternative to Vanity's. A good R4 monster, even better when there are ways to protect it (Key Beetle, Forbidden Lance, an Effect negation card etc.), only requirement that only DARK monsters can be used to Xyz Summon it.

Or you drop it in a Phantom Knight deck, considering this might have somewhat more of a value than dropping thanatos for defense and by times better ... quite often at least as good as Dark Rebellion.

Agreed. I use both but Nightmare is more likely to hit the field for reasons similar to those Garoudude said. Really depends on how prepared are you for your opponent's Special Summons and what suits you more to Summon, though.

(If you look at his left hand, it's standing like he says "Come at me bro!")
