Shradow
When a certain man is released from prison, he knows exactly where he's heading first. After falling in love with a traditional comic storyteller's rendition of the story called "Shinigami," he is determined to become his apprentice. The performer, Yakumo, has never taken an apprentice before, but to everyone's surprise, he accepts the eager ex-prisoner, nicknaming him "Yotaro." As Yotaro happily begins his new life, he meets others in Yakumo's life, including Yakumo's ward Konatsu. Konatsu was the daughter of a famous storyteller, and Yakumo took her in after her father's tragic death. Konatsu loved her father's storytelling, and would love to become a performer in her own right—but that path is not available for women. I think this might just be my favorite anime of this season, what a great first episode. I've known about rakugo but never seen it performed so this was pretty cool, I like the setting and the characters a lot. And it was a double length episode, too, which was awesome. A shame the rest of the episodes will be normal length.
Maeriberii Haan
After checking this out, I'll follow it. Looks really interesting and I really like the theme and the subject of the anime. This is an original, right? Not an adaptation of sort?
Shradow
No, it's an adaption of an ongoing manga from 2010. Also, there was a 2 episode OVA that aired last year, and the first episode of this is just an edited down version of those put together. So I guess the OVAs acted as a sort of preview. Rodrigo
Huh. Never thought I'd stay concentrated for nearly 50 minutes watching Japanese, calm stand-up comedy in anime. This show is surprising. Certainly going to keep on watching.
