"It’s time to consider a curfew for men"

Why do I even attempt to raise my faith in humanity?

This, truly, is a species made of mistakes, that only really makes more mistakes.

Hmmmm, no. That's an exaggeration.

Also, why is this worth talking about? This is obviously just some crappy circle-jerk opinion piece written by a freelance writer that won't gain any steam. It has clear, baseless, and obviously sexist claims that are clearly fueled more by bias than any proper research. It cites a limited number of occurrences and uses them to generalize an entire gender, which absolutely asinine and even a little insane.

Honestly, any proper editor for any publisher shouldn't give this woman the time of day; this article is just atrocious and I'm beginning to question the validity of her degree.

98% of men use sexist media that refers to females and female children as whores, c***s, skanks, ghetto b****es, etc. These are not terms of endearment, this is hate speech.

Porn does have a of shitty way of doing this…IIRC there's a "female friendly" category on most major porn sites, which says something about the other categories.

So if a small percentage assaults women, all of a sudden all men are rapists? Its like saying if a couple of women cheat, then all women are cheaters. I also like how the article won't address the white elephant in the room.

One user responded to this argument

"Its not a few. 2 in 3 girls in UK schools experience sexist abuse and 1 in 3 experience sexist violence in the form of sexual assaults. 98% of men use sexist media that refers to females and female children as whores, bastards, skanks, ghetto bastards, etc. These are not terms of endearment, this is hate speech. 1/2 million women are attacked by their partners a year, so that is half a million hate attacks by men. Hate attacks on women by their partners went up by 31% this year alone, and by a similar percentage last year again. Police are reporting being overwhelmed by hate crime against women. This is not a few bad apples. 98% of your community using media that calls women by subhuman references is almost total sign up. Our government that was elected by a landslide as they call it didnt get close to this level of endorsement."

Love to know where these numbers come from

In 2014 statistics report 59.63 million married couples in the United States alone. If, say, that 1/2 million was in the US alone, that's less than 1% of married couples in the US. Now if 31% mentioned is 31% of that >1% number; it's not as large as they'd like us to think it is and is still less than 10%. Again, this talking the US alone.

Police are reporting being overwhelmed by hate crime against women.

This is, honestly, utter stupidity. Again, I'd like to know where that number is coming from. But, to elaborate: it's completely idiotic to say something like "Because you use X media, therefore you are like that." Crap, you guys, because I play some shooters that means I'm a murderer. Wait... if I play RPGs... does that make ME A WIZARD?! It's MORONIC to say something like that. We live in a world population 7.4 billion people total. If even like, only 40% of that was male, these generalizations would be utterly INSANE to make. Like, it's one thing to say "All rapists are men". That's some legitimate information that's worth exploring when looking for solutions.

But to use the phrase "All rapists are men" and extrapolate that to "All men are rapists" is something COMPLETELY different. These are completely baseless and prejudiced statements used by people that would like to think they're fighting sexism, but are really being infinitely more sexist than they realize.

Even regarding the article; are a curfew on ALL MEN would be completely stupid. For one, it's a very sexist and oppressive action to take that's standing atop a base of self-righteousness. For two, it's completely unnecessary and there are much better methods of countering this rise in sexual crimes in those regions. And finally, for three, it does NOTHING to actually solve the problem. Making guys stay indoors past a certain time isn't going to change how they act; it isn't going to change any problems inherent in that culture that are causing these issues to happen; it isn't going to actually fix anything. All it's going to do is probably make matters much worse because, hey, look at that you're already oppressing ~50% of the population just because of your own prejudice.

Really, all this is showing me is that an MD is gender studies or w/e obviously isn't an MD in journalism or logic; because WOW this is a very stupid article.

***Jack, I know you're quoting someone else, so don't take this against you XD

why is anyone here talking about this

why is it worth a post.

The thought is ludicrous, it's never going to happen, this thread doesn't need to exist

You can't say we should just not discuss this because it's a ludicrous and stupid idea, so is Trump for president, that's got a lot of traction. These ideas are absurd, but that's no reason to simply pretend they don't exist. It's better to actually see them and discuss them and understand why they're utterly retarded than to ignore them, because the fact there are actual people who think this way and support this kind of concept is something that should be addressed.

There is a very big difference between Trump, a major presidential candidate with millions of followers, and an unrealistic, discriminatory, impossible to enforce idea from a backwater feminist website with a potential grand total of 90 readers. I can't see this sort of idea or post spawning any meaningful conversation.

I mean, sure, it exists. But does it actually need to be discussed? I feel like this sort of post exists solely to support the anti-feminism circle-jerk I've been passively watching on this site for the past couple of months.

What is there to discuss? To understand? "This idea is bad because x" doesn't need to be said, because everyone understands this already. Is this idea gaining any sort of meaningful traction anywhere? I just can't see anything productive coming from this thread that hasn't already been said for a dozen other things in other threads.

The point of that comparison was just to demonstrate that the objective stupidity of something doesn't mean it can't gain traction. There are comments on this article supporting it, and however small the percentage may be it's still there. No harm is done by bringing this kind of nonsense to light, it's better to be aware of stupidity and these ideas than not. No thread on a YuGiOh forum is going to be of any consequence anyway, may as well laugh at idiocy and, as VCR did for everyone, refute the shite it purports.
