ITT: "Destroy and sent to the Graveyard" clauses no longer need to send to the grave

Recommended Posts

This is an idea I had recently.

As a sort of introduction, I believe most of the users here are aware of the "When/if this card is destroyed and sent the the Graveyard" and "When/If this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard" clauses (and their different variants), and know how not only this makes the effects vulnerable to being stopped cold by cards that prevent the monsters from reaching the Graveyard (e.g. "Macro Cosmos"), but also noticed that the arrival of Pendulum Monsters have weakened effects with these conditions since they normally won't reach the Graveyard at all by card mechanics.

So, what I want to discuss here is:

Which would be the impact on the game if the "sent to the Graveyard" line was removed from those clauses?

To mention some examples of effects changed by this hypothetical setting:

A clause seen on many floaters:

If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard:

Another variant of said clause (e.g. Ice & Fire Hands):

When this card in your possession is destroyed by your opponent's card (either by battle, or by card effect) and sent to your Graveyard:

Effects that activate when another card is destroyed (e.g. "Meklord Emperor Wisel")

When a face-up monster you control is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard (except during the Damage Step):

Effects that trigger when the monster destroys a card or monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard (e.g. "Crimson Blader", "Goyo Guardian"):

If this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard:

(For the record, effects that activate when the card is sent to the Graveyard but doesn't require to be destroyed are not considered in this hypothetical setting. For instance, "Heraldic Beast Leo".)

Of course, the most noticeable change would be that floaters will get to, well, float whenever they are destroyed, regardless of the place they end up, making them more flexible. Just to put it in perspective, this wouldn't be too different to how "Performapal Plushfire" and "Ariadne the Absolver" already work.

But there are other boons involving this change. For instance, monsters such as the aforementioned "Meklord Emperor Wisel" and "Crimson Blader" would become more effective, since their effects will apply when destroying Pendulum Monsters as well, also under the effects of, let's say, "Macro Cosmos", or if the destroyed monster would sent itself to a place different to the Graveyard after being removed from the field (e.g. "Genex Ally Birdman").

Discuss. Would it be a majorly positive change for the game? or perhaps floaters could end up becoming a problem if their effects become more flexible?

I really don't like the idea of the Hands and such triggering off being BTH'd. I do think it's something that should be at least done for older cards, as in pre-synchro/Xyz, whose effects were based off destroying monsters by battle, because pendulums have killed those effects right off and it probably wasn't a consideration. Floaters are another thing altogether mind.

Divine Wind becomes a damn good card, Law and Macro don't stop hand traps, think that's the big impact

Keep in mind this hypothetical change only applies on effects with "destroyed and sent to the Graveyard" clauses and their variants. Thus, hand trap effects wouldn't be changed since they don't need to be destroyed to activate.
