Fahrenheit DOAX3: Jim Sterling and the Gaming Media's War on Japan

Boy howdy can I just feel the bias ooze of this video, in particular because of the mocking tone when reading most of the comments.

And I seriously gotta say, whoever this person is they're putting a awfull lot of significance and emphasis on a game series that's infamous for its pioneering breast physics. Because I'll be damned if that isnt what people keep bringing up time and time again whenever one of these games is mentioned. The tits (not counting this video).

As for this whole thing "controversy"...... so what? The company has taken a decision to not release a game based on the fact that odds are it will sell incredibly poorly given how the second game already sold significantly worse then the first, and now there's also a attitude in the west where you can be CRUCIFIED for just such a thing as not having a female playable character (*cough cough*Assassin's Creed Unity*cough cough*). Yes the Japanese culture is ok with such a portrayal of women, but the western world as a whole isnt at this time. Companies are gonna follow around that, big surprise. Just as the Japanese culture is ok with portraying women like this, the western world is not.Dont come here and try to tell me one is just "evil" withouth some serious evidence to back that up.

And I dont know what his beef is with Jim Sterling, but for gods sake take a few steps back and realise the man is among other things a entertainer. Him saying "Anita Sarkesian is not Magneto" isnt meant to be taken litterally, but as a more amusing way to say "She's not some supervillain that will kick down your door and confiscate your games". For f***s sake the sole reason Sarkesian even gained some pull TO BEGIN WITH is because people saw her as some criminal mastermind that's gonna take away all their games unless they put a stop to her. Guess what, you created this problem, now deal with it!

TL;DR. People have oppinions of their own, deal with it. Jim Sterling is among other things a entertainer, dont take him so damn seriously. Anita Sarkesian is not Magneto, if you dont understand the meaning behind that then I feel bad for you. Also, me personally, cant accept the fact that the DOAX games arent objectifying when the second game in particular has a major mechanic revolving around getting money so you can by REALLY skimpy bathing suits and then have the girls do pole dances for you

That this is even being called a "war" is sickening to me. This is western world saying "You can keep making it, we just wont import it"

i'm not watching the full video but i am quite aware of the controversy(followed play asia myself after the tweet happened).

i just wish tits and ass would sell better so this sorta problem doesn't occur in the first place.

DOAX2 Sold fine in the US, in fact, we sold a higher percentage than Japan over the course of many years.

DOAX also sold well in North America.

Those are not good sales numbers. At least they certainly aren't the kind of numbers a publisher is happy with in this day an age.

Also, you need to realize selling more in the U.S. doesn't mean a ton since the U.S. has a much higher population.

Compared to what the game is, those sales are pretty good. It is simply a niche title meant to fill a niche market within the DOA fanbase. Even if it didn't sell well, the fact of the matter was more money was made from North America than was made in Japan, making the claim that nobody buys it here, not possible. It doesn't hold water. To say that it is more lucrative not to sell it to the US is ridiculous considering more money would be made than by selling it in your home country.

I highly doubt those numbers are "good" under any stretch. Especially since your looking at game sales over 10 years. It took 5 years just to break 200K. It took a year for the U.S. to sell more copies than it took Japan to sell in 10 weeks. (1 year US=70K, 10 weeks Japan=61K). Those are FAR more important numbers to judge a game on than how well it did over a 10 year period. Even if you look at it over that 10 year period, to say more money was made in the U.S. overlooks the cost associated with localization as well as the opportunity cost of having people do that instead of something else. Its likely still more but I doubt its enough to be worthwhile, especially since again, your talking over a 10 year period. Bottom line, if a company says it isn't in their interest to publish a game somewhere, they probably aren't lying. You can disagree, but end of the day they are looking to make as much money as possible as fast as possible. Clearly bring DoA 3 here does not break their minimum threshold for it to be worth their time and money.
