YCM Secret Santa?

Because I have no idea where this goes (I thought Suggestions, but then it's not actually a change to the site, etc.), I'm putting it in General- the Hermes Cabin of YCM.

 

Anyway: I had an idea, and I'd like to know what the community at large thinks.

 

A kind of "Cardmaker Secret Santa", if you will: like the Monster Masquerade, but in December.

 

Essentially, each participant lists some of their favorite design elements/archetypes/cards that need more love/what-have-you, and signs up. Then, in December, everyone gets randomly assigned someone else on the list, and a helpful mod could do the name changes for the month- complimentary names to the person you're working on a gift for [example: someone doing one for me would probably Dracoena/Dracena, the feminine equivalent (Dragon Lady) to my Draconus (Dragon Lord); someone doing one for Sakura would have a name based on another Naruto character (never watched it, so my info on the subject is limited); et cetera]. During the month of December, fake like you are that person- Once you get your prompt, look through that person's posts for a while to pick up on their speech patterns. Parody affectionately [Again, using myself as an example because I probably won't participate, due to the fact that I'm probably going to be one of the ones running this: use a mix of outdated slang (I admit, I talk more like I'm from the 90s or early 2000s than someone who exists in this general time period) and words most people would have to look up in a dictionary. Be hammy at random moments. Post suggestions for ideas at odd hours. Et cetera.]

 

Sometime between the 20th and 25th, post a card that you think that person might really like to be real, given the stuff they put up that they liked. If someone figures out your real identity before New Year's, give them 20 of your own Points as "hush money", I guess you could call it.

 

Then, January 1st, everyone goes back to normal, hugs all around. Yay.

I think your idea for a December Masquerade is a little complicated. And the Halloween event just finished, it might be a little early to do an event of that magnitude. I remember the one or two times I participated in Secret Santa, we weren't limited to card making, but really any gift was acceptable. That way people who weren't card makers could come up with something and participate in the event

Didn't we have a Secret Santa thing last year where people primarily made GFX stuff for people among other things (cuz I remember there was an anime Secret Santa thing too)?

That was reserved for Showcase, though I don't know about the anime one.

Maybe Night will redo it this year, if he has time. Otherwise I could ask if I take that one over this year if he's busy.

 

CC is supposedly having one, depending on interest level (which is 3 people at the time of posting)

I would've done one after final exams conclude, considering that it is still rather early to be planning things at this time.

 

But either way, shouldn't really be limited to cardmaking, like Catman mentioned.

(Though by that token, shouldn't be limiting it to GFXing as well)

I knew there was a showcase one, and I think there was one for anime because I remember people PM'd another what anime to watch and for them to give their thoughts at the end.
