This thread gave me the idea to try and find an effect hidden in the Lore of Normal Monsters. Might not be the best idea to actually use these - in fact, most of the effects are either broken or useless - but I thought it might be an interesting project for me. Not sure if this is the right forum; if so, do me a favor and move it, mods.

 

I'm doing every Normal Monster ever (Except Pendulums). I intend to update every one or more days with new cards. Of course, not every monster necessarily has a hidden effect; I will indicate those with a "-". I will also put the reason why I gave an effect in brackets next to the effect (i.e. Cannot be destroyed by battle (can withstand fights)). If you think an effect should be done differently, or have an idea for a monster I have not been able to do, please say. Cards are in alphabetical order. Here you go.

This card cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects involving a Warrior- or Spellcaster-Type monster. (has never been caught by mortal man)

 

Abyss Flower

You can Flip Summon this card during either player's turn. (blossoms quietly)

 

Acid Crawler

Once per turn, you can target one card on the field: Destroy that card at tne end of the next turn. (secrets an acid which melts anything)

 

Acrobatic Monkey

If this card is attacked, flip a coin. If the result is heads: Negate that attack. (it moves very acrobatically)

 

Air Eater

At the end of each turn: Destroy any monster next to or on the same column as this card. (suffocating any who stand near)

 

Aitsu

Once per turn, roll a die. If the result is a 6, this card gains 3000 ATK. You can only use this effect of "Aitsu" once while this card is face-up on the field. (he might have incredible potential)

 

Akakieisu

Once per turn: Flip one monster on th field into face-down Defense Position. That card's battle position cannot be changed, except by a card effect. (spells that render monsters unconscious)

Amazon of the Seas

While this card and "Umi" are face-up on the field, "Umi" cannot be destroyed by card effects. (protects the sacred domain of Atlantis)

Once per turn, when your opponent declares an attack: You choose the attack target. (diverting attacks from their intended targets)

 

Archfiend Soldier

After damage calculation, when this card battles an opponent's monster: Destroy that monster. (always gets the job done)

 

Arlownay

Once per turn, you can place 1 Pollen Counter on each monster on the field: At the end of your opponent's turn, destroy all monsters with pollen counters, regardless of whether this card is on the field or not. (sprinkles the air with poisonous pollen)

As long as this card is face-up on the field: "Umi" cannot be targeted or destroyed by card effects. (protects the sea)

Here's a review for some of the cards. They aren't part of an archetype so that works against them but here goes:

I also didn't look up the stats of any of these, so I'm reviewing as if they are all level 4 or lower

 

Abyss Flower
You can Flip Summon this card during either player's turn. (blossoms quietly)

 

I don't see how this would be useful

Acid Crawler
Once per turn, you can target one card on the field: Destroy that card at tne end of the next turn. (secrets an acid which melts anything)

 

Does acid crawler need to remain on the field to resolve this effect? If yes that makes it worse. If no its ok.

Acrobatic Monkey
If this card is attacked, flip a coin. If the result is heads: Negate that attack. (it moves very acrobatically)

 

Maybe also have this apply to opponent's card effects? (See Terrorking archfiend for wording example)

Air Eater
At the end of each turn: Destroy any monster next to or on the same column as this card. (suffocating any who stand near)

 

Destroying your own stuff isn't good normally. I'm personally not a fan of senet mechanics.

Aitsu
Once per turn, roll a die. If the result is a 6, this card gains 3000 ATK. You can only use this effect of "Aitsu" once while this card is face-up on the field. (he might have incredible potential)

 

A good start, but I think the probability could be higher then 1/6

Akakieisu
Once per turn: Flip one monster on th field into face-down Defense Position. That card's battle position cannot be changed, except by a card effect. (spells that render monsters unconscious)

 

I'm assuming attacking it still flips it over? Could be good for stalling annoying cards, especially since it appears to not target.

Alexandrite Dragon
When this card is added to the hand: Draw 1 card. (whosever finds this dragon has hit the jackpot)

 

Concept looks very solid. I'd just change the effect to "If this card is added to the hand: you can reveal it; Draw 1 card. That way its easier to judge weather or not its being used legally since you can't normally look at the other player's hand.

Alien Shocktrooper
When this card battles, during the Damage Step: This card gains 500 ATK. (stunning physical attacks)

 

Change it to "When this card battles an opponent's monster, it gains 500 ATK during the damage step only". As it the bonus stacks from multiple battles and also applies to direct attacks.

Alligator's Sword
If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step: (swing his sword so fast, dat it's more dan da speed a sound)

I hate Snatch Steal, thanks for the reviews, but as I said before:

 

Might not be the best idea to actually use these - in fact, most of the effects are either broken or useless - but I thought it might be an interesting project for me

The idea is not to balance them. The idea is to see if I can find hidden effects inside the monsters. I hope to use your review at a later date if I actually start balancing them. Nice to see you read quite a few and commented though :)

This card cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects involving a Warrior- or Spellcaster-Type monster (has never been caught by mortal man).

 

Barrel Lilly

 

You can tribute 1 Plant-Type monster you control, except "Barrel Lilly;" Destroy 1 Monster your opponent controls (attacks enemies with pollen-based projectiles).

I'm eager to wait for "Yaiba Robot" and "Mega Thunderball", this takes a lot of effort and patience and can help you develop innovative cards, looking forward to completion...

Suggestion for "Gem Knight-Sapphire":

When this card is used to ritual summon a monster, increase the monster's DEF by 1000...(since sapphire is a hard stone and it has a bluish color scheme, similar to a ritual monster)

Archfiend Soldier: After damage calculation, when this card battles an opponent's monster: Destroy that monster (always gets the job done)

 

Cyber-tech alligator: If a Dinosaur-Type monster is destroyed by battler or card effect: You can Special Summon this card from your hand (Originally a pterodactyl saved by technology)

 

Dunames dark witch: Cannot be destroyed by battle while you control no other monsters (against all the odds she never retreats)

I'm not so sure on how Dice Armadillo is useful. Just roll a 6-sided die, and then what? Does it trigger something? Does something happen? What?

To be honest, that's the only thing I could think of regarding it. It's not meant to be useful (See Abyss Flower), and was inspired by something I saw on DP.
