Aix
A dirty, disheveled young boy huddled in the candlelight inside a cave. He bore signs of being wealthy once, but his silk clothes were now torn and discolored, and his once-radiant blond hair was now matted with grime and dirt. He was shivering terribly, not just due to cold, but also due to blood loss. Crudely drawn on the floor of the cave was a very simple but large rune. Blood was still flowing freely from the cut the boy made to draw the rune, but the boy paid no heed. His eyes were firmly shut and he continually chanted the names of his heroes in myth and legend. He chanted and chanted until his breath grew more ragged with each syllable. Finally, he fainted... not seeing the brilliant flash of light that signaled the answer to his prayers. [spoiler=First of all, what the funk is Session Roleplay?]Session roleplay is my term for having writing sessions together online using Google Docs. It's still a roleplay where everyone controls their own character(s), but it's all real time. After every session, someone will post it IC on YCM. Of course, being like it is, we can only have a few people in each roleplay. This process makes a much smoother roleplay without the awkwardness of dialogue and combat in post-by-post roleplays and also without the unrefined quality of Skype roleplays. I also hope that this kind of roleplay is faster and less likely to die. We'll have to figure out times when everyone can be online. [spoiler=Alright, so what's the plot?]Valrune Continent is the birthplace of the mortal races, where the Progenitor set foot on the earth and crafted the First Men from mud and stardust. It has a rich recorded history of over thirteen thousand years—of the rise and fall of empires, the advent of dark gods and dragons, and of course, the hyperbolic exploits of countless Heroes. Immortalized by song and tale, these Heroes continually inspire the next generations of Heroes in the eternal Babel Cycle, a phenomenon of fate and history that continually reemerges in the studies of prominent historians and theologians. Yet, unbeknownst to many, there is an anomaly that throws a kink in the circle of life and death, the Phoenix bloodline. The first to appear with the Phoenix blood was a Hero eight hundred years ago who founded the Ashyrian Empire with the help of mysterious allies. His empire soon fell to pieces after his death, but his blood lived on in the royal family of the Glasya Kingdom. Rael Glasya is the thirteen-year-old heir to Glasya Kingdom. Yet with the assassination of his father, his uncle seizes the throne. Forced to flee from his home and robbed of his birthright, Rael turns to the old myths of the Ashyrian Empire and the Phoenix bloodline for help. Inside a dark and damp cave, he invokes the Hero Summoning Ritual to bring back to life the great legends of eras long gone. You are one of such Heroes, surprised to have been risen from the dead. Before you is a boy with whom your life force is intricately tied to, and he begs you to help him in his quest to reclaim his kingdom. We'll obviously be doing a lot of world-building and this project will involve considerable creativity. I'll be accepting up to three other people into this roleplay.
