Because it makes people look dumb. The crazy people on Tumblr can get more traction simply because they can filter in and out the content they want and respond in very collective ways due to the tagging system. The minorities become vocal because of the echo chamber they create for themselves. Doesn't mean a website is funking evil. If it's because the staff aren't doing anything about it, Tumblr has a report system. I am certain it has been put into action there. Anyway, funk extremism. I hate the show but I dont hate the fandom, I feel sad for it, sad for the people who have to be placed right next to people like this who belittle the suicide of someone just based upon their own funking opinions they wanna shove down someones throat, congrats SU fandom you really outdone yourselves now. The artist put her soul into this art, and only because she made HER interpretation of the character, people had to bully her. Disagree, in all honesty she should have moved her shite to DeviantArt or something and I do feel it was trivial as Hell. This wasn't just the SU fandom, this was a specific group of people that had been targeting this tumblr user LONG before she posted SU fanart. The SU thing was just one more thing for them to jabroni about, and was more the straw that broke the camels back rather than one individual incident that caused her attempt. a bad post Posted October 31, 2015 Report Share Posted October 31, 2015 Ok, so the article doesn't really capture the whole situation correctly, and I have been following this pretty closely. Firstly the artist in question had been bullied over a long period of time, and also encountered familial abuse (which is, at least what I think, contributed to pushing her over the edge. To her tumblr and deviantart were places were she could be accepted for who she is, and escape the abuse she suffered from her family. So basically what she got were people spitting in her face that was what told her that she really had no place to turn where she could be happy) so this is not simply an isolated incident that occurred as a result of oversensitivity. Anyway basically what happened was it starts with this girl posting a picture of the MLP Fluttershy in a human form, wearing native american clothing, her reasoning for this being she felt Fluttershy and Native American people where "both very connected to nature". Several people believed this to be offensive, and harassed her over this. She removes the art, no big deal. Zamii soon after posted a drawing of 3 Yowamushi pedal characters, one of the characters who is Japanese, was drawn in a stereotypically asian way (yellow-ish skin, "squinty" eyes) which the tumblr and deviantart communities again thought was racist and slammed her for it. However sheet didn't really start to go down until she began posting fanart for the Steven Universe fandom. Now I'm not sure which fanart actually sparked the fire per say, however I do know that it was one of her "skinny" (she's really not that skinny, this is just hypersensitive people over reacting) Rose caused the biggest back lash. Basically what happened was tumblr (and to a lesser degree deviantart) went on a witch hunt for the poor girl creating blogs dedicated to shaming her among other terrible things. This, combined with the sheet home life she had, as well as the mental diseases (I believe it was mental disease, however I could be wrong though I do know she was on medication before her attempt) she suffered through pushed her over the edge and made her attempt suicide. After this came to light a lot of people were scrambling to remove any culpability from themselves saying they were minors so it wasn't there fault, or citing her home abuse as the reason for her suicide attempt and not the online abuse, and others have gone so far as to claim it was fake. Now a whole new sheet storm has started because the creators of Steven Universe have actually come out in support of this girl, which has caused the entire fandom to go funking super nova. That's a whole different issue though. Let's not generalise shall we? Because it makes people look dumb.
