Mutant Monster RAEG-HAPYP
http://abcnews.go.com/US/lapd-outfitting-officer-body-cams/story?id=34700852 Interested in seeing how this pans out. I want all police departments to do this if possible. Though, it will take more than this to fix what's going on in this country regarding law enforcement. It's not all of law enforcement, but still. Gotta be careful in who you hire, especially for a job like this.
Excalibur the Divine
Well, at least this will help prevent lying by both the officer and the "victim". Although there was a case where the police officer's camera "fell off".
Flame Dragon
As a reminder to people, the reason police departments do this kind of thing isn't because they don't trust their officers but because it can save them a lot of money in false claims made against police. The fact that it also keeps bad cops honest is a side effect, though one that pleases many people.
jackelgull
And when those claims aren't false, the body cameras can be accidentally shut off, or left at home, or whatever the excuse needs to be. Still, better than nothing.
Flame Dragon
Which is why officers should be penalized for not properly monitoring and taking care of their body cams.
jackelgull
They should, true, but will they is another story. I'm not entirely sure the police departments are willing to enforce the body cam laws.
Flame Dragon
That is certainly an issue that could come up. However because it is in the police departments interests to have the cops wearing the body cams and having a rule and not enforcing it is effectually the same as not having it to begin with so I don't imagine this will be a major issue. At least long term, since when people start trying to game the system they will have to start cracking down.
epicmemesbro
I'm surprised they didn't do it sooner, they announced it ever since the Ferguson incident. the LAPD are notorious when it comes to racial profiling. Alot of these zero tolerance policies are to blame not to mention the three strikes law. But I think that the LA county Sheriff really needs to have cameras. They aren't as regulated as the LAPD and they've been under investigation for corruption and the sheriff is facing charges.
