Ryusei the Morning Star
The US is a terrible peacekeeping force. We need to stop worrying about x country and y country and start focusing on our borders. Many people are predicting the decline of the US in global power, and it's true. We're so intent on burning time to prosecute the gays and stopping woman from having reproductive rights. What we need to work on is being self-sufficient. The Midwest can easily feed the country, we can reignite the manufacturing in the rust belt, looking at how enthusiastic our generation is about space we can reignite our interest in progressing. Let Russia and others deal with the Middle East and their problems. If we need to make pacts with anyone, it should be strengthening ties with Canada and approving Keystone since Oil is something that's hitting us hard atm. We should have retreated behind our borders a LONG time ago. But later is better than never. Thoughts?
Aerion Brightflame
The thing is, this is the 21st century. It's practically impossible to actually be an isolated country anymore, simply because trade is too important. Import and Export of resources and workers, and money simply define how economies work now, and has been for a very long time. Like even hundred of years ago, foreign trade for commodities was a back-bone of economies. You can't just eliminate that, and expect your country to work in any way shape or form. It's too ingrained now. You can increase the amount you have to export sure, but you still can't be self sufficient. But if you mean not interfering with political situations we have no right to? Sure, that's something most western countries should've done, something we didn't do with Iraq, and is why it's good that our intervention in the middle east crisis for the past 4 or 5 years has been so light. You can't just butt in and expect to solve things quickly and easily.

And 100% agree, Just look at Jordan's outrage at ISIS, they'll deal with matters on their own. Our (Americans) Worry should be us for now
Aerion Brightflame
You still can't be. If you stop importing raw materials or goods, then a) Your manufacturing industry can't make up the slack; You probably kill hundreds of small to medium businesses, and make large ones move out of your country. b) If nothing else, costs rise hugely, forcing prices up, and you probably can't pick up the slack so poverty will rise. Hell, people will probably starve because suddenly the amount of food available is much more limited. You'll probably being in a state of martial law after a while, which is bad. epicmemesbro
I've been trying to promote this idea but not many people cared, not even liberals. Cities that used to be centers of manufacturing such as LA and Detroit have been severely affected by the economic crisis and even their population has dwindled. For those that font know the rust belt is the northern part of the US that was heavily industrialized. The mid west has actually had a decrease in population, some towns are even on sale. Problem is people go down south to get jobs, only to find unemployment which leads to ssi benefits. The agriculture industry has become more mechanized and family farms seem like a thing of the past. There needs to be a surge of jobs that can lead to the repopulation of the mid west and even up north. Putin has things covered when it comes to foreign affairs, he is offering results while the US offers mistakes (hospital in Afghanistan). The only solution I can think of for jobs is maybe textiles, and steel manufacturing. China now is the largest manufacturer of those. We can take those jobs back.
