(GigaDrillBreaker)
http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/latest-developments/skeletons-rd’s-closet-2004-02-20 Was a really interesting read, and really just goes to show that the potential implications of a card may not be immediately apparent. Part of me says such mistakes wouldn't happen anymore, but honestly a lot of this reminds me of some of the early reactions to Treasure Cruise, which I think is fair to call the strongest card in at least ten years. So yeah, I guess for discussion we could talk about R&D's design process, past design mistakes, and similar. If anyone else knows of similar articles, I would love to see them. .Rai
http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/ld/135 http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/latest-developments/skeletons-rds-closet-part-3-2014-12-19 They did two more of these. I think that Magic probably have the most thorough R&D process in the industry. Mistakes are generally less frequent for that reason. Things always slip through, of course. There are just some things you can't fully predict.
Flame Dragon
On Arcbound Ravager "D3 7/28: R&D changed mana cost from 3 to 2 just after handoff to Typesetting (7/9)." And this is why major changes no longer get made at the literal finish line of Magic design.
