Sublevel Zero is a first-person roguelike six-degree-of-freedom shooter set in a universe where reality is falling apart. Take control of a lone gunship pilot whose mission is to loot and craft ancient technology.

First off, I have to say that the Six-Degree-of-Freedom Shooter (6DoF) is one of my most favorite genres. Pioneered by the series Descent, a series of some of my absolute most favorite games, it's a genre where gravity does not matter. You fly a spaceship that can move up, down, left, right, forward, and backward. It all controls really well, too. It's not like a flight-sim, but you get what I mean. The genre typically involves diving into large dungeon-like installations and exploring them. You find cool weapons, you kill robots, and you have a fun time escaping the clutches of death by mere inches.

I could go on about what I love about Descent; from the fact that it manages to be kind of a spoopy game without using any actual spoops, to how I always felt that it could be a really good roguelike. Well, the roguelike happened, and Sublevel Zero really delivers. The visuals are fantastic, the controls are tight, and the weapons feel really good to use. The game can also get fairly difficult, but nothing where you're pulling your hair out. You need a fast trigger, a good aim, and a knowledge of when to barrel into a room and when not to.

The game is on sale for $15 until October 15th, so if this interests you, now is the time: http://store.steampowered.com/app/327880/
