Lunar Origins
"For some people, the promised land." The war drums sound. "For others, hell." A year has passed since the fall of the Rose Kingdom - your homeland. Zion - another kingdom consisting primarily of dark elves and orcs cohabiting together - triumphed in a brutal war against your people, with the casualties reaching well within the millions thanks to their unexpected and unrelenting biological warfare. Your people, the people of the Rose Kingdom, which consists of common elves and humans, are dying out. The diseases wrought forth by the warmongers of Zion have rendered nearly your entire nation sterile. Hundreds, if not thousands, die weekly still thanks to the aftershock of the war. Your government was dissolved, with numerous high ranking officers from Zion replacing it. Your home is no longer a home. It's a cage. You - a former member of the Rose military, have joined forces with one of the last remaining high ranking officers (and a familiar face at that) in a suicide mission to save the former prince of Rose, who is now imprisoned at the Rosen Palace. Your people need a beloved figurehead and a name to unite under. You believe that, having learned from your prior mistakes, you can win this time. You can do this. Perhaps, with a little heart, you can find home again. Perhaps. [spoiler=Setting] Zion is set in a futuristic high-fantasy world, where elves, humans, orcs and various other races cohabitate. Most of these races are split between nations; dark elves, along with orcs, live in a place called Zion, whose architecture ranges from anywhere in far eastern Asia to that of Russia. Humans and high elves, on the other hand, were members of a kingdom simply called Rose, whose architecture comes from a mixture of several different European nations - most notably the United Kingdom and France. Magic exists in the world of Zion, but use of it on its lonesome has dwindled in Rose since technology has arisen. As many people haven't bothered to practice some of the most basic of magics in a large number of years, it's seen more as a novelty trick - compare its usage to a magician's show in today's age. Despite this, magic enhanced by technology - colloquially known as magitek, was an emerging field during the war with Zion, but all research into it stopped with the war itself. Magitek, or at least the prototype magitek that existed prior to the war's end, focused on implants that allowed the user to generate hard-light from thin air using energy from their body. Sadly, this technology was lost when the research facility was destroyed during the war. On the other hand, many of Zion's infantry specialize in magic; granted, this magic is seen as rather primitive, but it gets the job done if it doesn't blow up in their face (which it often does; uncontrolled mana tends to be a finicky thing). Experimental magics researched by Zion during the war included homunculi (artificial humans/elves made by combining technology with a deceased body and magic), which was a minor success. However, the resources expended to create such things were overly expensive and the entire thing was unethical even for them, so the project was scrapped after only a scarce few were made. Other tidbits:Racism is a prominent problem in the country of Zion, but not so much in Rose.Rose and Zion are the only two real factions on the planet, besides an isolated continent to the far north. We know what's there, but we don't go there. It's far too cold. The technological level of this world is far beyond our current, though the architecture and the social level remains about the same - at least, in Rose it does. [spoiler=Races]Humans: Your average fare, you should know them quite well. Humans co-founded the kingdom of Rose with the common elves with a marriage between the royal families. Humans are exceptionally well rounded and posses no particular talents. Many humans and elves have married and bred in the hundreds of years since the conception of Rose. A crossbreed between an elf and a human is always referred to as human, and can only be told apart thanks to the pointed ears their elf heritage grants them.Common Elves: These look like humans, though many tend to have a different number of animalistic traits adorning their person, with the most common one being a different set of ears than usual, or a tail. Even so, their physical traits other than those are nearly identical to those of a human's; same two hands, same two eyes, same too feet, so on and so forth. Common elves are known to be a little better at being creative than humans, so research and development teams are usually dominated by them.Orcs: The green or blue tinted humanoids that live to the far east with their dark elven brethren. Orcs aren't as you'd think they would be from appearance alone; while they look fearsome, they're mostly a very kind and caring people. However, they live in a caste system and are oppressed by the laws set forth by the immensely powerful dark elves. Nevertheless, they feel a great need to stick by them. Since the enslavement of much of Rose, there have been some stories of Orcs freeing captive humans and common elves out of sympathy.Dark Elves: While not quite evil, these elves - resembling a crossbreed between humans and common elves, only with the ears being far longer and their skin coloration having a blue tint - have quite the chip on their shoulder. They're known oppressors of almost every race on the planet, and absolutely hate halfbreeds between other races, especially the ones that run rampant through Rose. Unlike all other races, dark elves have a massive affinity for magic. Very few Dark Elves ever leave Zion, and if they do, it's on war orders.
