Evidence of liquid water found on Mars

It means that in the future colonization may be possible. It's still a long-shot but it's a bit more of a possibility down the line.

Also it's proof that there's potential for life on other planets.

I mean, it's good and all for colonization, but don't we need oxygen? And... Seriously, Cavin and Hobbes taught me we should fix our own issues on this planet before we mess up others.

As for life on other planets, well, they're in no hurry to up find us, that's for sure.

If you guys think water on Mars is cool, you should check out "Gliese 1214 b" - the categorical name for the nicknamed Waterworld. It is literally a planet that is PURE WATER. Imagine that! About 2.7 times Earth's diameter and is almost seven times as massive, and it is just one massive ocean.

Screw Sci-Fi man, real space is so cool.

No arguments there.

They should call it Gargantia.

Also, yay for water on a planet.

Of the essentials of water, food, and oxygen, water is by far the most difficult to get. Food and oxygen are easy in comparison.

The thing is, Mars and other planets don't have anything to mess up. And also, colonisation of other planets/the Moon might be a way to help 'fix our own issues'.

For example, an idea I had heard of was placing a load of solar panels on the moon, hopefully allowing much cheaper (or even free, to an extent) electricity for everyone, making so much more possible, as well as saving on space/resources on Earth!

What they mean is, if we don't fix our issues we have here now, we'll just make the same mistakes when we colonize other planets. The solar panel thing would be awesome though.

The technology needed to colonize other planets would probably solve all of our current issues on Earth anyway. And the prospect of colonizing other planets besides possibly Mars is so off in the future, the 'issues' you talk about will be completely different.
