Battle for Zendikar Prerelease

(GigaDrillBreaker)

Recommended Posts

I won't play this time because I have to pay for my motorbike's annual documents, so the small free money I had this month I choose to spend on the Fatpack, because at least I'm guaranteed 89 full art lands value.

However, for the first time, our LGS made a midnight pre release, and it seems like out of 22 players, they opened exactly 2 Expeditions Blood Crypts. Not bad!

So, my deck was insane. 2 Drana's Emissary, Serene Steward, Kalastria Healer, and Retreat to Emeria made up the core of the deck with some decent removal and creatures filling it out. Also a Shambling Vent. Went 3-0 and over the 12 packs I opened I got 4 different Tango lands. Other note worth rares I got were Brutal Expulsion, Beastcaller Savant, and Ruinous Path. The games were a ton of fun and I'm looking forward to playing with the set more.

I didn't go, but four of my friends are there now. One came back early because his pool was terrible - got a promo Brutal Expulsion, though. The other three are still there, one of them being "friend" that gets all the luck in our group (clarify: nobody's a fan of him) and who opened a foil Undergrowth Champion. >_>

As for myself, I'm putting my bets on the fat pack that I ordered. I do need another box to store my stuff in, anyways. (:

I have 2 boxes coming my way and I'm likely to buy 2 fatpacks. Don't mind opening no mythics, even if it sucks.

That's like the worst mythic creature though isnt it....

Its still a foil mythic and is going to be worth a decent amount out the gate. Whoever it is should sell it ASAP.

The format is interesting, My first deck was a U/R tempo deck that had some decent removal but the creatures had no late game reach. I switched over to a G/B midrangey deck and it worked really well. I ended up going 4-1 and got 3rd place. No expeditions were opened at my store though. The store a town over got like 5 blue expeditions.

I really liked what I played of it. Feels like synergy is really important.

Guy also pulled a Sacred Foundry Expedition. Yeah, we're never gonna hear the end of it. <__>

Did I ever you tell you guys about this one time I did a draft and opened Sarkhan, foil Sarkhan, and then Ugin. It was a thing. And it was amazing.

Made Grixis Eldrazi. Peered over my pool near the end of deckbuilding time, and hastily slapped together a Naya aggro with the leftovers.

During sideboarding in the first match, I took the time to refine the Naya deck and then switched decks entirely. It was fantastic, landing a push with a large swarm of double strikers. Pulled a fast one on many an opponent.

Ended up building BUG Scion Aggro. Casually swinging for 17 out of nowhere with Swarm Surge was awesome.

That card is scary. One of my opponents hit me for 19 with it and forced me to chump 2 other creatures. The best part was I attacked backed for 12 and gained 16 going back up to 22 and putting him to 2 thanks to the Awaken thing that gives Lifelink and hitting a land for Retreat to Emeria.

Yeah, the game I swung for 17 was against landfall aggro (legit felt like I was playing zendikar limited with that guy, he had the one drop, the bear, the grey ogre, and the trample guy) and he had me at two before I won.

This was the deck I build, my promo rare was Ruinous Path, I also pulled a Smothering Abominantion, which I didn't use for obvious reasons (Didn't feel like splashing a 4th colour with so litle fixing) Anyways I build a Colorless Temur Deck which ended up 4-1-1, and got me a third place.

MVPs of the Deck where Benthics and Nettle Dude...XD Hardcasted Desolation Twin 3 times in all 6 rounds I played, and the pack I got him in bring also the token XD

Won a second prerelease pack as prize there my promo was Brutal Expulsion and pulled Ugin's Sanctuary, Scatter to the Winds, Felidar Sovereign, Wasteland Strangler, March from the Tomb, and Omnath, Locus of Rage.
