Daybreak Coronet

It's not really a shame, it's just poor a design choice, much like most of the crap in MMA2

What makes it even more egregious was that the flavor text and new art all pointed towards Daybreak Coronet being originally included in Theros, but having gotten cut in testing for being too strong. Would it have been? I don't know: would've broken up the horror that was RTR/THS mono-blue/black, at least. Why the heck they didn't design MM2 around its reinclusion is anyone's guess.

I believe it would have pushed UW Heroic too hard after Nightveil Specter rotated, but I have never been the best or most knowledgeable standard player, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

As for its modern applications, I freaking despise Bogles. I understand that good aggro decks need to exist, but damn that deck is a pain in the ass.

Art commissioning comes sufficiently late that it's unlikely that this was leftover art from Theros. The Theros flavoured art says nothing about whether it was ever in the Theros file or not.

I do agree that it's just odd that it was so out of place in MM2. There were various mistakes like that so I just put it on a design mistake.

There was a MaRo post somewhere that said something to the degree of what I wrote - that it was tested to be too powerful. Can't remember my source, though. )B

The card would have CERTAINLY been too good in standard.

And yea, IMO the RW theme should have been an enchantment based one. Might have been harder to make work, but putting rares in that do nothing seems worse than stretching a little. I mean, they could have printed Daybreak Cornet in the Gods vs. Monster duel deck and back then it wouldn't have been that weird since that was around when the price started exploding.
