Way to go America.

I know it's kinda bad for the kid since it didn't sound like a good idea to bring something that definitely looked like a bomb while schools are still paranoid about school security and while America still hasn't absolved it's prejudice toward arabs, but this is horrendous.

Kid got interrogated, and despite letting him free, the minimal charge they put on him was for making a hoax bomb. Way to save the school you funking morons. Way to not apologize properly and acknowledge the mind of a genius prodigy here.

They're just trying to save face.  Every school on the funking planet does this.  It's funking stupid, but it's true.

Back in middle school, someone wrote on a bathroom stall "Everyone dies at 2:15".  The police and local K9 Unit were called in.  But school was never closed.  In fact the squad left at 1:30.  A whole 45 minutes before the supposed "2:15".  Yet 15 minutes before, we evacuated, and returned to finish up class.

The bomb threat was just that.  And empty threat.  Why didn't the squad stay?  Why weren't we sent home?  Simple.  They looked at the camera footage.  The message was written by a recently depressed autistic kid that had been subjected to bullying that passed week.  The bomb was known as a hoax since the squad had left.  But then after the evacuation, the principle said on the intercom that he was offering a $500 reward to anyone who knew the identity of the one who wrote the threat.

They knew who it was.  They had the info.  But he was an autistic child with no aid to be seen by his side.  No one ever got that reward.  And to the people who didn't already know who did it, that next week they were on edge that there was someone willing to threat a bomb in class with them.  The school never announced that he was found or turned in.

They saved face by simply making a big fuss and then letting it fall into obscurity instead of biting the bullet, singling out an autistic child (freaking taboo in the community as is), and getting the whole thing over and doe with.  Same exact thing here.  They made a big stink, realized they were retards, and now have to "make sure" or some sheet.  He'll be back in school with no charge and probably a year without school tax after this suspension.

Whatever the reasons for the school doing this, it doesn't change the fact that a child, who saw school as a place to excel and learn, now sees it as a place to fear, because of the color of his skin, his ethnicity, and his religion.

School is a place meant to nurture creative minds like his. Instead it's a place where he'll probably never feel truly safe anymore, and that's a d**n shame.

I know that 9/11 just passed a few days ago, but really this is stupid.

Yes, the clock could be mistaken for a bomb, but do you think a 13/14-year old would have adequate knowledge of how to design one?

Seriously, the kid built a clock to TELL time.

That definitely didn't warrant him getting arrested.

Just because we have ISIS and some other terrorists in the Middle East does NOT translate into all Muslims having the intent to blow crap up.

Also, the handling of this case was shitty in its own right.

Is this technically going to give the kid a Criminal record for the purpose of future employment? Because if so, the school really funked up and should be ashamed of themselves.

It had better not, otherwise the officials who did this case (teacher and officers) seriously need to get fired.

Again, he only brought in a clock that tells time. Was it proven that it was a bomb? No.

-----

Sigh, I'm disappointed in this country (and I live in the US; although a good 2000-something miles from the mainland so Hawai'i doesn't get all this crap).

We do, however, but nowhere near this much.

"It looks like a movie bomb to me."

Holy sheet these people are retarded.

One of the people I follow on twitter was commenting on this. One of the biggest problems with film is that it trains you to be afraid of things that look like this. Which is problematic because creating fear in people isn't good.

I honestly get why they would be nervous about a device like that. But when its explained and shown what it is, it should end their. The fact that he was charged with bring a "hoax bomb" is just wrong. He never claimed it was such and only showed it to teachers. He wasn't trying to cause a panic. And when you have comments like this, "Yup. That’s who I thought it was." when a police officer sees the kid you have a problem. Also, they should not have taken his prints or put him in cuffs. And his parents should have been contacted.

Is this technically going to give the kid a Criminal record for the purpose of future employment? Because if so, the school really funked up and should be ashamed of themselves.

I do not believe so. The charges have been dropped and minors have any past interactions with the police sealed after they reach certain age assuming it wasn't something super serious. Since the charges were dropped I'd assume that to be the case.

You would be surprised what people are capable of doing. Not to mention you don't know if he made it or someone else did. Again, I get airing on the side of caution.

This felt appropriate.

It really isn't.

Save face?  Nah, they ain't saving a motherfucking thing.  In fact, this is gonna create an even bigger problem.  And in fact, I hope the kid sues the whole God damn school board.  He clearly operated, displayed, and told these people that it was a clock.  AND HE STILL GOT ARRESTED.  YOU AIN'T SAVING FACE BRUH.  YOU'RE A funking DISGRACE.  funk TEXAS.  And funk THE bastards who were too GOD DAMN STUPID to get a FACE FIRST funking CLUE that this was A funking CLOCK.  This is GRADE A PROFILING RACISM AT ITS funking FINEST.

And if you don't see that, THEN funk YOU TOO.

What do you mean? I'm doing humour based on a historical figure who, in his life, bombed people. If you're implying that what I said was racist, it wasn't meant to be so in any way. I'm sorry if it turned out like that.

That man is the reason many innocent Muslims are prosecuted, not only was your meme unfunny it was also inaccurate. It's disgusting cause the only thing funny about that man would be putting his head on a spike in public for people to spit on

Just gonna point out that posting pictures like that is spam anyway.

As to not just be a mini-mod....

Yeah this was super dumb. But I'm gonna say that even had he not been Muslim this might have happened. Schools in America (I say in America cause I can't speak for everyone) are crazy paranoid about any kind of threat. And honestly rightfully so.

However once they realized it was not an actual bomb an apology should have been made and charges dropped.

And yes, there are many many places in America that aren't this shitty, thank you very much. Sorry but I'm so tired of all the America bashing that goes on here and feel I should mention that these aren't the majority even.

I mean heck, our president is obviously on this kids side. And he's kinda sorta a big deal when it comes to American policy.

*grumbles and wanders off to eat*
