"The collapse of a construction crane that killed 107 people at Mecca`s Grand Mosque was "an act of God" and not due to a technical fault, an engineer for the developer said Saturday."

What is this, ancient Egypt?

Helps if you know what they mean when they talk about an act of god.

Act of God:
1. an instance of uncontrollable natural forces in operation (often used in insurance claims).

From the article linked in the OP:

"The head of Saudi Arabia's civil defence said strong winds and heavy rains had caused the collapse."

Of course they won't just have the heavy winds as the explanation and just it. It's a preliminary statement and the Saudi government and the contractors are currently investigating the incident to see if there's any technical reasoning behind it too.

But even then really, is it wrong to say that it's an act of god, as long as it's not just said as an excuse for obvious man-made mistake?

Anyway, on another note, I've been finding some news source that claimed that the Saudi government had buried the victims in their country instead of bringing them to their home countries. Still unsure of the news's authenticity, so if anyone can give a more solid info on this, it'd be nice.

I heard about this and was immediately mortified, especially knowing that the pilgrimage would start sometime soon (I'm not an expert on Islamic culture, so I don't know exactly when it'd start off the top of my head).  In any case, over a hundred people dying is far more than a tragedy.  I truly hope they find out what caused this and punish whomever had a hand in it if it wasn't a so-called act of god.  My deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones.
