Other youtubers are also facing these takdowns. I suspect that this has to do with the release of Mario Maker... Why else would they go after speedruns and rom hacks? Hacks have been around since the 90s and speed runs the mid 2000s. Nintendo might see these as a threat to their possible income from the Mario Maker. although it isn't surprising since Nintendo seems to hate YouTube. In 2013 they also tried to start a crusade against people on YouTube posting their content. Although public outcry made them take that back. Flame Dragon
Moving to Video Games since this is Video Game news. Anyway, Nintendo is very weird. They seem to know how to internet, look at their Nintendo Directs and what not, but they are totally clueless with regards to handling youtube. Like, sharing emulating games CAN be seen as a little sketchy, but it really isn't that big a deal.

They seem to know how to internet, look at their Nintendo Directs and what not, but they are totally clueless with regards to handling youtube. Like, sharing emulating games CAN be seen as a little sketchy, but it really isn't that big a deal. The problem is twofold. 1. Nintendo is run by a bunch of old japanese men who don't know what the funk to do with all these new things. They like the idea of "broadcasting directly to fans." They dislike the idea of people showing off their content without their permission, even if it technically falls under a grey area. Even if you have the support of a few of the higher ups at the company, it's unfortunately hard to get anything done unless the TOP top brass are all behind that, and even then... NoA is constantly in a struggle with the board.2. Most of these takedowns are bots. Not Nintendo going in and picking videos in particular. Not Nintendo going in and picking videos in particular. 1) Thats a problem with a lot of Japanese companies in general. I know Linkara had MASSIVE problems posting HOPR on youtube even though Saban was cool with it. 2) Agree that the bots are a much bigger issue with Youtube than the companies.
