Blake
Pendulum Effect: If a face-up "Performage" monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can Special Summon this card from your Pendulum Zone, then take 500 damage. You can only use this effect of "Performage Flame Mascot" once per turn.Monster Effect: If this card on the field is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can Special Summon 1 "Performage" monster from your hand or Deck, except "Performage Flame Mascot". So, I decided to test a version of Purepal with a thinned Mage engine, leaning more to pure, as Mage and Pals feels unwieldy as funk without its 3 Lock Rank 4s, Lavalval, and Utopia. Just 3 Juggler, 3 of this, and 1 of the scale 3 mirror. Why? Well, Damage Juggler is amazing as funk, covering a real issue with Purepal, and this is a really strong kill card. And Sky Arc does synergize with this guy. The problem I encountered was that, even leaning towards the Pure/Odd-Eyes build, it's just too unwieldy. Unless you DRAW the mages, you're stuck searching a funk ton of cards, and you're running a slightly weaker version of pure, as you can't really fit Noble Dragon and such. Searching them with Majester Paladin or Odd-Eyes is too slow and easy to read, and Juggler, the actual reason to run the engine, can't be searched. Which makes me sad, because Damage Juggler is my favorite. Testing this Pals w/Mages happened because, upon switching to DevPro to test, I stopped opening as well as I had been, and I wondered if it was a different algorithm or what. Due to Odd-Eyes being slow and, somehow, not opening one of 11 Performapals that search, I decided to see if adding Juggler for survivability and this guy for early stabilizing plays/stronger kill turns could be worth it. It wasn't. It was just X cards I could no longer search, with inconsistent quality. And I only cut Trick Clown and Hats, which don't add to the deck as much as the ones I kept, anyways. This feels like Seraphs, honestly. Not a consistency engine, but a power engine. And I don't think, after Monkeyboard, these cards need the additional power, instead wanting a wee bit more consistency to open stronger. And maybe for Rain Goat to be buffed into a Damage Juggler, though it would be really funking overkill. The Pmage engine will surely find another home, given the power it does offer, I just think it's not here anymore. Think of it like Seraphs in Tellar; Redundancy that doesn't add up to a better deck, but waiting for its own Clownblade to come and break it. And then, without Pendulum Mages, it serves as either a consistency engine (Seraphs, pretty dead now without Lavalval) and a general value engine (Nekroz). Toffee.
I don't really understand, half the time, why people prefer to run like 2-3 other cards that will honestly be (seemingly) useless outside of plays involving destroying This card. I mean, I get why you would run Luster/Wavering/etc in addition to This card, but if that's all you run, then it just... Comes off as being weird/gimmicky, IMO. I mean, This card is honestly fine by itself because it gives you access to every other Mage in your Deck, and that's all you want from it, really. But whatever works, works, I guess. (GigaDrillBreaker)
Luster and Wavering are both crazy good even without this. Popping this with Sorcerer or Sky Arc seems insane.
