Smear
Destiny is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Activision. It was released on September 9, 2014, for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One consoles. Destiny marked Bungie's first new franchise since the Halo series, and the developers have a ten year plan for the franchise. Set in a "mythic science fiction" world, the game features a massively-multiplayer "shared-world" environment with elements of role-playing games. Players take on the role of a Guardian, defenders of Earth's last safe city, as they wield a power called Light to protect the city from different alien races. The Guardians are tasked with reviving a celestial being called the Traveler, while traveling to different planets to investigate and destroy the alien threats before humanity is completely wiped out. Since launch, Bungie has released two expansion packs furthering the story and adding new content: The Dark Below in December 2014 and House of Wolves in May 2015, with a third, The Taken King, set to release in September 2015, which will mark the beginning of year two of Destiny.Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destiny_(video_game) I'm sure everyone's heard of it, and I'm surprised that there hasn't been a thread for this already (or at least not from what I could find). I love this game. Only been playing it for a week but I just find it fun. I know that a lot of people dislike the game (and basically everyone hates the loot system), but I got drawn to this game and I'm not sure why. What are your thoughts on the game? And does anyone else on YCM play it? I'd really like to know. I'll even keep a spoiler filled with everyones info whether it's XBONE or PS4. Yeah that's basically what the whole game is.Although I love grinding, not sure why. Diablo 3 is an even bigger grind but I play the hell out of that still. Not sure why I love grinding so much. Agro
It's aggressively average. Like the base mechanics are all good and amazing and perfect, and I enjoy the multiplayer much in the same way I enjoy Halo multiplayer. But the story and characters are nonexistent. The mission design is repetitive and boring. And it feels like they're making you pay more and more money to finally play a game they should have included from day 1, which is why I haven't bought a single expansion and stopped playing the second the first one came out. I think the combat is the only thing keeping me playing even though it's basic fps gameplay. I bought the expansions mainly bc I have a friend who plays and he said I should so I can join him on some stuff. Glad I did though its a bit pricey considering you dont get much. I'm pretty keen for the taken king giving three new subclasses.
Shradow
Agro pretty much hit the nail on the head. After I beat the base, "story," I was super annoyed that that's all there was. I played it for awhile and got up to the Light Level stuff (I only had 1 character, a Bladedancer), it was really really fun. And when it comes to the grindfest at the higher levels, I actually like grinding. The main reason I stopped was because I didn't have anyone to play the co-op with. I pretty much stayed away from multiplayer outside of getting quests done, I wasn't too bad but I wasn't amazing or anything at it. Honestly, this talk about it makes me want to get back into it, I don't actually have any experience with any of the DLC. Though right now I'm at school with no access to it. Sixty
I also remember the one and only raid I did taking multiple hours for minimal reward. Call me a MMO newbie, but that shit doesn't really fly well with me.
VCR_CAT
Been playing for a while (Hunter / Level 34 - http://destinytracker.com/destiny/overview/ps/Broblerone)And like, yeah #realtalk time for my thoughts on the game. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like Destiny. I really like it; the gameplay mechanics are very solid and sharp and it's simply just a really enjoyable game to play. But that doesn't mean I think it's flawless. The story is crap, and me, my bros, and my friends often joke about certain dialogue lines being just awful. The game has some interesting lore, but it just isn't fore-front about it at all. The campaign in particular suffered these issues:The plot was no cohesive and had no overarching issue or pressing problem. It honestly was just "Hop to this planet, do stuff, hey let's go to the next".The character involvements were Peter Dinklage and Peter Dinklage ft. Characters Giving Dramatic BriefingsThere was no villain; nothing to fight against; no end-goal.The missions themselves were all basically the same; but I still think a certain mission on Venus is the best. The first expansion improved a little by at least making an antagonist; but once again it had no good overarching plot. The second expansion did a lot better; not only did it make at least a passable plot, but the COMs banter was a very welcome change. But overall, the story was poo and I have to say I enjoy Destiny like I enjoy Mario; definitely not for the story. But let's get on into what I really like, because I feel like none of you really went into the end-game content. The raids. Hoooo booy the raids. The raids are amazing and really fun. They really play with the mechanics and do different things; they're very difficult and team-oriented and offer different challenges. The Vault of Glass in particular has an amazing atmosphere in a way that the whole raid feels like some big easter egg the developers didn't really want you to find; and I mean that in the best of ways. There's no dialogue, and there's minimal anything telling you stuff so the whole thing feels like you're cracking some big secret in the game like the old Rush games for N64. Crota's End is also really fun. I didn't quite enjoy it as much as Vault of Glass, but it definitely had its moments and I have some very fond memories. Prison of Elders isn't as great as the others; but I did get a really good story out of beating the hardest difficulty; the unfortunate part is that now I have no reason to do it again since it doesn't really give anything that great that I want. I just needed to beat it once. Trails of Osiris (3v3 Team Elimination with a very competitive focus) is really, really fun in my opinion. It's a real challenge and you go against some really good players often, but it's the real competitive scene and I've had a lot of fun with friends in it and had some really good moments. I have very mixed feels about Iron Banner (6v6 Control with a competitive focus). You meet a lot of players who just play very cheaply and not for fun and too often you'll get paired with crap teams. It's fun if you have a full fire-team to play with, but if you don't and you don't need to play it, then you probably shouldn't play it. With Taken King, they're (apparently) going to rectify the story-aspect by having more (skippable) cut-scenes; a bigger involvement from the existing cast; better in-mission banter, longer and more atmospheric missions; a bigger involvement from the main villain; and Peter Dinklage is being replaced by Nolan North. Overall, I've very much enjoyed this game. The end-game content is a lot of fun, even if you don't really get anything you wanted. Only time I've ever felt a raid was a waste of time is if I was playing with n00bs and then didn't even get anything to compensate my struggles with patience. I would suggest getting into it again, but not right now. Wait until The Taken King comes out, and buy a bundle featuring The Dark Below, House of Wolves and The Taken King all in one. The first two DLC don't add too much, other than a few story missions, but The Taken King adds quite a bit. Hell they're even throwing Nolan North into the game. I also remember the one and only raid I did taking multiple hours for minimal reward. Call me a MMO newbie, but that shit doesn't really fly well with me.lol nice swear filter bypass. And yeah, you must've done it with a bunch of low level / bad players. Raids should only take like 45-90 minutes. Sixty
I was one of the terrible players. The guys I did it with had done it a million times and my friend and I were along for the ride for the sake of getting it done. From a purely nostalgic, "find that secret" standpoint I enjoyed it, but to a certain degree it was simply too esoteric to really be a reasonable thing to figure out. (This was the Vault of Glass) I should say I was beside myself with hype with my friends when the game was coming out. Bungie games were always great, and the promises this game was making were pushing all of my correct buttons. Plus, Paul McCartney was doing the score? I just couldn't wait. We had played the hell out of the beta and were rabidly waiting for more. Some of those friends are still playing it, together with newly found comrades, going well into the 30s. I got stuck somewhere around 28, although I was the first to hit above 22 out of the group. The game really dies without good, enjoyable company to play it with. Otherwise, it's just monotonous. Agro
At release, most outlets were of the opinion that this would probably be a very good game in a few years in, even if it sucked then, and I do think that a "Game of the Year Edition" with all the expansions for $60 or less would be worth it. But I already bought the game, so there's not much reason for me to buy any more. Bladedancers are mad fun, pretty bad at boss fights but if a swarm of enemies comes at you slashing the sheet out of them is so satisfying.BLADEDANCERS ARE funking STUPID AND YOU ARE A TOOL FOR USING THEM No but seriously, they broke in multiplayer. 3+ kills by mashing a button? funk that noise. (which can also get 3 kills by pressing a button, but still) And yeah, I think it's stupid that there's no matchmaking for the raid and you have to LFG online so you can run it. Having friends probably does make this game way more enjoyable.

Agro
You could argue that Destiny's biggest problem was that they tried to borrow things from MMOs. Which was a poor decision because MMOs are defined by bad game design. Though, I will give Destiny this: It gave me one of my most memorable gaming moments. Heroic Strike/Story/Whatevertheycallthem/Theyallfeelthesame. That giant blob thing at the end of the base game that summoned the 3 giant statues to fight you. I kept getting us all killed because I insisted on jumping on top of the statues as they were zapped into life and filling them with rocket shells upon spawning. It was worth it for when I actually did what I wanted and we won.

VCR_CAT
Broo that play time is crazy. Just a question, why don't you have any other characters? I mean more characters means more Strange Coins + Motes + other bonus s*** so like why not? Yeah, I started playing like a couple weeks after the launch and I've been hooked since. Winding down quite a bit now (just play to kill time and do weeklies). But yeah, I had an alt but honestly I just didn't want to invest the time to level it all the way up. I'll be making a new alt for Taken King (a Titan) to experience Nolan North story and all the new changes to regular Destiny; but yeah I just didn't want to put the time into making an alt. Plus I have like almost everything I want and like over a hundred strange coins sooooooo (I do the weeklies and don't really buy anything with them) No but seriously, they broke in multiplayer. 3+ kills by mashing a button? f*** that noise. Oh that reminds me of one of the other problem with the game. The raids are very good, yes, but if someone doesn't have friends to play with there's no reason they should pick the game up. The gap in enjoyability is horrendously large. To the first: Eeehhh the only thing about Blade Dancers that's actually broken is Blink. Blink is stupidly busted right now, but it's being nerfed so that's all good. Arc Blade can be really amazing when executed properly, but half the time you're just going to get nuked by a Nova Bomb (most powerful super IMO and I play Hunter Master Race; it's VERY HARD to dodge a Nova Bomb and you will get like 2/3 kills with it consistently. It's actually embarrassing if you miss), blasted by a Golden Gun (hardest super to use IMO because of how easy it is to miss, but it also has the potential to be the best with skill), or just plain smushed by a Fist of Panic (name advertises all). Besides Blink and Arc Blade, the rest of the perks aren't that great for PvP (really good in PvE though), and Blink Strike honestly sucks as a melee ability. By far the worst. You're honestly better off going for a Gunslinger for PvP. As for the second, this is what I used because I had problem finding friends to play with: https://www.the100.io/community The 100 is a community where you get paired up with a group of up to 100 players in a "Company". These players will be similar in terms of age, time zone, how much they play, and how they play (competitive or casual). You can schedule when you want to play and what to do, and people will join up and then you got 3 players. I've had a really good experience and met a lot of really cool people through it that I still play with. Every group has assigned "Sherpas" that are there to help you through the more difficult activities and show you the ropes if you're unsure about them. Great site overall. Shradow
So my brother is the one who actually bought Destiny, and he played it longer than I did, probably still does. I don't actually know, since I don't play much 360, but if he owns all the DLC for Destiny (I don't actually know if he does or not), would I be able to access it on my own XBL profile as long as it was the same console? VCR_CAT
So, I can't stand shotguns in PvP. Am I just bad or are they actually a problem? Currently, they are a big problem. The biggest offenders are the Matador 64 and Felwinter's Lie; and the problem is because now you can reroll weapons that are dropped to get your desired perks. Anyways, it was discovered that the perks "Shot Package" and "Rangefinder" are absolutely busted together. Shot Package is a perk where when you aim down the sights of your shotgun, it tightens the spread of the shot. Rangefinder has a similar effective; except when you aim down the sights it extends the range of the gun. Matador and Felwinter's Lie are the particular offenders because both shotguns are of the similar "archetype"; shotguns with high range, high impact, and low rate of fire. This means that they hit hard and far, but slow. The reason these shotguns with those perks are absolutely OP with those perks because you can One-Shot-Kill a dude from Auto Rifle range; it's absolutely stupid. With the 2.0 update coming in early September, both perks are being nerfed quite a bit for shotguns, and shotguns themselves are receiving a nerf. Also Thorn is being nerfed too (praise the Nine). Shradow
Ok, sounds good. I haven't gotten the perk for Sunsinger's Radiance that reduces damage yet, but I'd still get one shot from too far ranges that should be allowed for shotguns even with full health and a full Flame Shield from Scorch. And things weren't any better on my high level Bladedancer. Sad to hear about the Thorn, though. I stick to Hand Cannons but I haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet. Smear
So, some progress since I last posted... I ended up getting the following exotics: [spoiler=Armour]Helms Apotheosis Veil Light Beyond Nemesis [x2] Skull of Dire Ahamkara Mask of the Third Man Gauntlets Claws of Ahamkara Khepri's Sting Young Ahamkara's Spine No Backup Plans Ruin Wings Chest Lucky Raspberry The Armamentarium [x2] [spoiler=Weapons]Primary Hard Light Universal Remote [x2] Secondary Plan C Also got the Toland's Legacy bounty and I'm on the way to get Bad Juju. And as for Legendary Weapons, I think I got 20+, probably more. And I got my Warlock to level 34, and both my Hunter and Titan to 32. I've maxed out both Voidwalker and Sunsinger on my Warlock finally, maxed out Bladedancer and halfway through Gunslinger on my Hunter and for my Titan I haven't even started my Striker yet, and I'm about 3/4 through Defender. So yeah, been a pretty productive time since I posted last haha. Still yet to run VoG or Crota's End, but I'll get to it. Really trying to get Obsidian Mind, Kellbreaker's Gloves and Bad Juju to finish off my Voidwalker build. Gunna be a super-spamming machine that basically destroys everything in PVE. Seriously can't wait to finish off that build so I can Nova Bomb the holy crap out of things. For my Sunsinger, I'm trying to get the Heart of the Praxic Fire so I can grenade spam to the sheet house. For my Bladedancer, depending on how I feel I have my Mask of the Third Man to nail people with Arc Blade, or my Khepri's Sting for invisible action. Also trying to get Don't Touch Me for survivability. For Gunslinger, I really want the Celestial Nighthawk. Seriously that 6x damage and Keyhole giving them an extra slot sounds so good. Defender, going for the obvious Helm of Saint-14. And finally for Striker... I'm really not sure. Maybe a Helm of Inmost Light? Either that, Ruin Wings or The Armamentarium. Not quite sure. Haven't really played Striker yet so that's probably why.
VCR_CAT
I haven't played really in a while.
