Defense Position Monsters killing Attack Position Monstets

Recommended Posts

been thinking about this and I honestly think that it would be better if you attacked a Defense Position monster and your monster had less ATK than their monsters DEF, that your attack position monster should die

this would of been much more powerful in the past but now I think this could only be good for the game

I...actually disagree, but I'm struggling to articulate why I don't like the idea very much. The way it works now makes a lot more sense - a monster in DEF is defensive. It endures attacks, but doesn't attack back. So a weaker monster hitting the higher defense is like punching a wall. It hurts, but it's not going to kill you. Unless it's Des Kangaroo or something.

The player is already punished with LP damage for an attempt to attack a DEF Position moster with higher points, why make is worse than this? Decks with low (if any) benefit from destruction would suffer, while the others would not care, at the very least.
If this was to be implemented, way too many cards would be alive again and others would cease to thrive. Sorcerous Spell Wall, Savage Colosseum, Staunch Defender and others (new or old).  Not only that, but the game`s rules, theme and strategies would be a lot different for the actual game to make sense. Superheavy Samurais have introduced a versed aspect of this to the game (i.e. some of them can attack while in DEF mode), which is nice. What makes it nice I believe is that they are an exception and not something common. (Total Defense Shogun, a very old card, acts the same but never had bright days.)

In a nutshell: The game`s nature would be very different, making it either too "suicidal" or difficult to play.

I think I get what you are going for: Defensive strategies are usually just waiting for the opponent to crush them so they are often not even worth trying as they can't push the opponent back at all and only eat away a very small portion of damage for crashing against a wall. Also you must have thought that since it depends on your opponent's actions, it still wouldn't be too much of an issue. I admit the idea is well thought out, actually.

However, Defense Positions already give you the plus that you take no damage from them getting crushed, and this would definitely boost and encourage stall. Up to problematic degrees? I have no idea without testing out, but it is definitely an interesting yet risky thing to have.

I don't think Staunch Defender, Battle Mania, and the such when combined with a boosted up wall would be an actual problem, and I can't think of much more off the top from my head, which is why I seriously don't know.

Personally, I'd have this as a card effect given to certain cards, not a rule for every wall. More so like a Magic the Gathering keyword that specified that the monster is being destroyed via battle.

Flavor is also against the idea.

Yes, but if you crash into a wall hard enough, you will die.

Maybe it should be if the difference is about 1500 or more, the attacking monster dies. Less would just deal damage.

That would just be arbitrary bulls**t.

I'd say it's actually better that Defense Position monsters don't kill stuff when attacked because it potentially allows one to dodge things like the Hands.

I guess I understand what you mean. I just hate how people auto-pilot the best decks and just Leeroy Jenkins at any face downs. If this was a thing, at least it would, make Yugioh a thinking game again.

first off, the metagame currentlyrequires a lot ofthought for most decks

secondly, shaddolls exist, as do hands in theory, No one "Leeroy Jenkins" it, unless they have nothing to lose, ie turn 2/3. Even then, wariness is a thing.
